This is a great mouthpiece but fills a very specific niche for me. I play tuba in the local civic orchestra and we are playing Symphonie Fantastique that calls for Tuba I & II. Actually the part was written for ophicleide and serpent; and really isn’t suitable for tuba, but is perfect for euphonium. Even though I double on bass trombone I couldn’t get the tone or ease of range out of any of my trombone or euphonium mouthpieces.This piece of music gave me the perfect excuse to buy this mouthpiece I wanted to try, but didn’t have a use for. With it I can easily play from C2 below the staff to F4 above the staff needed for the piece. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to play The Planets or another piece of music that calls for tenor tuba or ophicleide. Maybe I’ll break it out for Tuba Christmas this year.
