My 10yo son started playing clarinet, and we got him a nice quality Eldon clarinet from our local music store. I also played clarinet for 6 years in middle and high school, and while I'm no expert I have some experience. The included no-name mouthpiece with the clarinet was awful. So restrictive, and difficult for both of us. I remember these mouthpieces were the first thing our band directors would recommend and swap out for all students, and after getting 2 of these (one for him, one for me) it was night and day. Good quality plastic and good airflow and sound.

I suspect Yamaha includes this mouthpiece with its beginner level clarinets as it is probably designed to be useable by a most players. It likely compromises performance characteristics for easy playability. It might not be the best for any individual, but it is probably a good starting place for most. I bought it to go with a used old Yamaha clarinet that came with a Buffet mouthpiece that had clearly seen a lot of use.The mouthpiece fits perfectly in my Yamaha YCL-24 clarinet.I'm currently using a Rico 2.5 reed. This worked better for me than Rico 2.0s and 3.5s.

Nice mouthpiece, fit a little tight so i used more cork grease/ no I used chapstick and twisted the heck out it so i got it on, hope it comes back off..lol it will JK.. A little light sanding on the corck might be in order. Very nice sound no hissing or vibrating. This mouthpiece helps you hold correct mouth structure while playing. I love it just sad that this and a ligature cost a little less than half the price of the clarinet i bought. Makes my Palatino student clarinet worth just a little bit more and sound much better. I feel smart for reading and understanding what i needed to sound the way i wanted. I got that.

I decided to try another one of these and I was pleased. I think the one I had previously was defective. Best mouthpiece in the price range and really improves tone quality and playability of lesser student instruments that come with subpar mouthpieces.I know these are good mouthpieces. The reason for the 2 stars is that it didn't fit the 2 clarinets that we have. I think it may be due to a manufacturing defect or change of some kind. I have an older 4C and this has never been an issue.

This worked fine for me, though I found that I needed to use a softer reed to get results I was really happy with. It was a bit of a tight fit on the barrel of the clarinet, but some careful adjustment of the cork with very fine sandpaper solved that. Not sure if this is recommended treatment but it solved the problem. I'm only a beginner, but I'd recommend this one. I can now go from A to B Clarion without squeaking. Great .

We purchased this mouthpiece based on reviews and recommendations from band instructors for my child in school band. We are very pleased. We obtained a used, older model Bundy clarinet and decided to get it fully cleaned and repadded and get a new mouthpiece. My child says that the used clarinet with new mouthpiece is easier to play, and makes a nicer sound, than his Bundy rental clarinet and the standard mouthpiece that came with the rental. (My child's music grade even went up!) The mouthpiece also seems a better quality than the standard mouthpiece on the rental clarinet, and we had no problems inserting the mouthpiece with minimal wax application to the cork.

This is an excellent mouthpiece, so I felt the need to give it five stars, but I hope that others will read this review above and beyond the star rating, because my son has had a lot of difficulty playing with this mouthpiece versus the one that came with his clarinet. First of all, the cork on this one made for a very tight fit on my son's clarinet. I actually expected this, as all of the corks on his clarinet were VERY tight when first purchased, and this was easily remedied with some sanding and cork grease. However, for some reason he just has a lot of difficulty getting a good sound with this mouthpiece compared to the one that came with his clarinet. Even using the same reed and ligature. I also played the clarinet since 6th grade, and I don't have a problem with this mouthpiece at all, but I'm sure my son won't be the only one. I purchased this mouthpiece because his original one has a tiny chip on one corner of the mouthpiece, so I thought it would be a good idea to replace it before it became a problem. He's back to using his old mouthpiece, but I decided to keep this one in case the old one eventually gives up the ghost completely. Hopefully he can learn how to play on it should he ever need to.My other son plays sax and I bought him a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece for it and he loves it and plays it much better than the mouthpiece that came with his sax.Overall, I highly recommend this mouthpiece, but don't be surprised if your young band member doesn't like it so much.
