The smooth rounded shape of the ligature does not allow for the reed to stay in place. When you try to tighten it, the ligature just slides off the mouthpiece. It's cheaply made.

I ordered a Yamaha clarinet around 3 months ago. After one month use, the ligature loose and cannot tight the reed enough even at tightest position. Amazon gave me a brand new ligature to replace, after about one month use, so far the new ligature still works great. What I worry about it is the design of screws are not perfect, easy to go to the end with limited space to tight. Not the best, but good for the price.

Purchased two of these pieces of junk. Seriously, Yamaha? As other reviewers noted the metal is cheap and one arrived mashed totally flat. They do not fit properly on either a 4C or 5C Yamaha mouthpiece and the screws do not tighten no matter how long you work at it. JUNK. I have a Yamaha ligature from I believe the 80s and I'll just keep using this tarnished, but high quality piece. The difference in quality is astounding. The older piece is significantly heavier and appears to have kept its original shape in the decades since it was made and installed on a Yamaha YCL-26. These new ligatures bend out of shape if you breathe on them.

My daughter started playing Clarinet and her first Ligature broke within the first week. She hass a Yamaha clarinet so we purchased this as a replacement. She has been using this one for almost 2 months now and this replacement works great and has not broken yet.

This ligature was purchased as a necessary tool for the instrument repair course I am taking and I could not be more pleased with it. This ligature was a great alternative to a lot of the more costly options and it works just as well. It is very easily adjusted and very secure when tightened properly. This is the perfect ligature for someone looking for good beginner/intermediate quality without a large price tag.
