I was dubious of the claims. A ladder that extends like a tripod leg AND can support 300 lb of weight? It sounded like a gimmick and I was fully expecting to receive a piece of flimsy (and dangerous) aluminum. Amazingly, what I received was a true marvel of engineering. This ladder is super compact, easy to extend and built strong. It has worked perfectly in my tall, narrow vaulted family room.Quick Tip: Purchase the optional silicone cover to save your walls from damage. The downsides are the weight and the collapsing mechanisim. This ladder is heavy and takes some muscle to lug around the house. Personally, I'm okay with the trade-off of weight for solid construction. Also, collapsing this ladder can take some pratice. As long as you mind your finger position, and do it on level ground, you should be fine.Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. It filled a very specific need in a brilliant way.

i just tried out my new ladder. My truck is in body shop so i needed a temporary foldable extension ladder. The collapsable size is amazing. Its well built and sturdy, however not having adjustable "feet" that dig into the ground it isn't as stable as an extension ladder. I could see it sliding pretty easily. also I swore I read it had a 20' reach, I went back after i was disappointed and still don't understand why 19.5 reach is in description. Top to bottom the ladder is only 15'6 so with the typical 3' above gutter, its really only a 12' ladder. I wish they would make a longer one! Also it feels way heavier than 36lbs. so this is great for around the house jobs. Its a little tough to close, but I'm sure it just needs to get broke in. I do see a potential issue. Its going in my car trunk, so no problem, however if you put in in the bed of a truck and it gets scratched, dinged, or bent i can imagine it won't telescope that link. Plus if you are really hard on it and break a tab on the closures you also lose a 1' use.

Tricky trying to raise it and lower it with one person, works much better with two people to unlock the locking system to collapse it

I bought this for my husband for his birthday. He really loves it.-It's pretty small when folded so it doesn't take up a ton of space in the garage to store it. It also fits in the trunk of our car if he needs to take it somewhere.-The rubber feet hold in place. When he uses the ladder, he feels sturdy enough that I don't have to stand at the bottom and hold it, which I have to do for any other ladder. That is a huge plus for me!-You can extend it to the exact height you need. He uses it inside the house (we have 9' ceilings) and also to get on the roof. This means you don't need multiple ladders!-There are colored dots that tell you when the rungs are locked into position.-The way it opens/closes is a really clever design. Just make sure you keep your fingers out of the way when you close it so you don't get pinched! We also bought the silicone protector that goes on the top rung. That piece is a little pricey but it keeps the ladder from scratching the walls or damaging the stucco when you lay the ladder against the house. If you don't have the protector, you have to use a towel which is awkward to do, so I definitely recommend spending the extra money for the silicone piece.

OK. I'm thoroughly impressed.IMPORTANT: The Chinese knock-offs are not nearly as well made. This ladder is ANSI rated, while the others cite that they are EN131 (European Union) rated. The important point here is that a ladder that is EN131 rated is tested at exactly the rated weight, while a ladder that is ANSI rated must be tested at 4-times its rated weight. In other words, a ladder that is EN131 rated for 250 pounds was tested at no more than that weight. An ANSI rated ladder, like this one, that is rated at 250 pounds, was tested at 1,000 pounds. BIG Difference. Also, do not be fooled by claims that a ladder is both ANSI and EN131 rated. That is NOT POSSIBLE. They are mutually exclusive rating systems. Now, to get on with my review.I inspect motorhomes and RVs and have to climb on top of some very tall coaches. Even if the coach has a ladder, I use my own ladder, because some of those attached ladders can be of marginal reliability. I used to use a folding extendable Werner ladder that would reach 13 feet, in its folded configuration. But it was ungainly to handle, took up a lot of space in my truck, and took a lot of time and trouble to put up and take down. Don't get me wrong. That Werner ladder a great ladder. But it's just not meant for being mobile.Enter the Xtend & Climb 785P. This thing is 15.5 feet in length, fully extended. That's a lot different that 15.5 feet in "reach". Many ladder manufacturers try to make their ladders seem taller than they actually are. When most manufacturers say that their ladder is 15.5 feet, you will notice the word "reach" included in the statement. So what that really means is that the ladder is 12.5 feet in length and that an average size person could "reach" 15.5 feet. That is not the case with the Xtend & Climb. 15.5 feet means actual length, so your reach should be about 18.5 feet. In short, this ladder is the longest ladder of its type. It's almost as heavy as my other ladder. But it's in a much smaller and more manageable size. That means that I can more easily lift it into the back of my truck and it takes up far less space.I weigh close to 200 pounds. But when this ladder is extended to its full length, I feel perfectly safe, even at a significant incline. There is no bounce or bend to it, as you reach the middle of your climb, as happens with lesser ladders. It's as solid as any ladder you could ask for. You can feel the difference between ladders that have been tested at 250 pounds and this one, that has been tested to 1,000 pounds. It's all the difference in the world. But the best part is how easy it is to put up and take down. If I didn't have to stop and attach some sliced pool noodles to the ladder, to protect the paint job on the coach, It would take less than 20 seconds. In fact, it takes longer to press the pool noodles into place than it takes to raise the ladder. Conclusion: Don't go the cheap route. This Xtend & Climb ladder is only a little more expensive than the knock-offs, but well worth the difference in price.

This was a great buy! So easy to cart around and easy to store. It’s a little tricky to work with at first and I strongly suggest reading the instructions BEFORE attempting to use the ladder and not assume you know how it works because if you don’t position your hands correctly you could sustain an injury. Otherwise it’s a great product!

All of these ladders have tabs for each step and those tabs are sometimes hard to press in to collapse even when they're brand new. This is the heavy duty version, longer and holds more weight, the 12.5 ft version is better for the average person. Still, at 215 pounds, I'm glad I got this one. There's no better ladder that folds up this small! This one is significantly heavier than the 12.5 ft version, so again - get that one if you're a casual user or weighing 200 pounds or less. The lost star is only because the tabs are hard to press in to collapse, this is a fantastic ladder.
