I've seen a few of these safes and the problem with them tends to be one of two things: the size, or the security of the attachment. This is the first time I've seen a safe get both of these right. This is nice and thin, no thicker than it needs to be. Attaching to a wall is also easy and secure with the included interior bolt.As for security, this will not stop someone with a crowbar, which is a separate issue. But it will stop small children etc.

In a hurry, a reliable biometric can be very handy. It also has backup keys. You could make them primary, but I wouldn't want to fumble them when seconds matter. The bracket is made to be a bit flexible in application. Wherever you put it, make sure it can't be ripped out in the event someone breaks in while you're gone.

In the box, you get the gun safe, a mounting plate, 2 back up keys, plastic anchors and screws, and a 10 page manual. The manual isnât great but it covers the basics fairly clearly. The safe takes 4 AA batteries (not included). To setup the safe, after inserting the batteries, use the included physical key to unlock the safe so that the safe drawer is open. Inside the safe, up top by the interior light (see attached photo), there is a small button underneath a little plastic door. In the manual that button is referred to as the âsetting keyâ. Itâs also referred to as the âresetâ button. To set the passcode and/or register your fingerprint, push that button for 2-3 seconds until the safe beeps twice and the outside buttons and fingerprint reader light up. Enter your new 3-6 digit passcode, then hit the settings button again to save the passcode.Keeping the back up keys out of the safe, close the safe drawer and test your passcode. To set the fingerprint to open the safe, push the settings button again, like above. Once the safe beeps twice and the outside buttons and fingerprint reader light are on, place your finger on the fingerprint reader and push down 4 times. Push once, wait for beep, release then push again. Repeat a total of 4 times. The manual states that 30 different fingerprints can be registered in the safe.Once the safe is configured, it works pretty slick. You can use either the physical backup keys, your numeric passcode or a registered fingerprint to open the safe drawer. That safe drawer pops out rather aggressively, giving you quick access to its contents. Using your passcode or fingerprint, there is a brief (~1 second) delay before the drawer pops open. When the safe drawer is opened, a blue light shines giving a small bit of illumination to the inside of the drawer. While I have little doubt that a determined bad guy could break into this safe without too much trouble, it is a reasonably hardened enclosure considering the use case and the price. The inside of the drawer has foam throughout to hold a single pistol and a separate slot for a magazine. The foam has cutouts to hold the pistol and a mag securely. My smallest pistol (subcompact 9mm) with a red dot fits just fine with a mag inserted. A full size 9mm with a 5â barrel, red dot and flared mag well just barely fit without a mag inserted into the mag well. With a mag inserted, it was a no go.I did try several fingers that were not registered, and the safe rejected all those attempts. After the 5th unregistered finger attempt, it went into a lockout state. It just kept beeping with all lights flashing. I eventually pulled the batteries to get things back to normal. Even after pulling the batteries, the safe still took my 6 digit passcode and the fingerprint reader still accepted my registered finger once the batteries were reinserted. So far everything is working as intended. The fingerprint sensor has worked consistently as have the numeric keys. Iâll update this review if anything new comes up.

this safe is compact but super effective. it is rugged and heavy duty to combat anyone that wants to try and gain forcible access. it is portable if need be which is convenient. i find myself moving it from the house to the car quite often. even better if you want it to be stationary it comes with a mounting plate to really secure it in the location of your preference. the 3 different methods of entry are super convenient. key lock, code lock and fingerprint lock. i was shocked to find out it takes up to 30 unique fingerprints. that is incredible ! the electronic slide-open action when opening is super cool. very modern touch. I really enjoy the customizable foam inserts, you can remove pieces as needed to fit just about any compact to full size and an extra mag. i will definitely be looking at grabbing more in the future for any of my family that carries.

I thought it would be good to keep an accessible firearm in my detached office, since my guns are in the main house, and I chose this XDeer pistol safe as a convenient solution. I like that this is a biometric safe that can be opened quickly and also has backup number keys and a physical key too. I don't trust that the biometric feature will always work if my hands are dirty or my skin is very dry so I want a backup. The safe is reasonably sturdy and comes with the mounting hardware, so it was easy to mount - you have the option of left or right side. It is padded inside with high-density foam, lights up when open and although it holds a full-sized gun and an extra mag, it doesn't hold FS guns with optics which may be unfortunate for some. It opens very quickly when unlocked, and it has an optional quiet mode so it doesn't beep, which is nice. The safe did not come with any batteries, but I have my own rechargeable batteries that I'll be using. I hope they last a while. (I couldn't see a big difference between using an internal rechargeable battery, and removable ones, though the built-in would be more convenient.) I just have to make sure and listen for the beeping sound when the batteries get low.Quality and build-wise, this is a good product.. I don't expect it to keep out a determined person who really wants to steal my gun, but it does make me feel safer to have my loaded pistol nearby and secured in an inconspicuous place.
