I have a lot of these. The old one's work great. The new ones don't work at all. The "throat" for the blade is too short and the blade will not insert all the way. Also, they changed the holder assembly. Half of the mated threads are plastic. You cannot get a blade to secure to these correctly, no matter what you do.

I do a lot of crafting, most recently building miniatures from kits. I use X-acto knives a lot but I keep losing the lids making them dangerous to store. When I saw this retractable set I was excited! Now that I've had them a couple of weeks, i.am.in.love. The X-acto pen comes with a sliding tab on one side that will extend the blade to a using length and then a "change the blade" length where the section that opens the blade holder is revealed. It's so easy to extend and retract the blade; it becomes instinctual. I never have to worry about cutting myself (well, not on an uncovered blade; I still cut myself while using it! User error!). I just toss it in my tool bag with everything else. I actually like this version better than the original one because the handle is bigger and both fits in my hand better and gives me more leverage. If I need to replace any of the three I received in this set, I will definitely be getting another one of these.

Was expecting a more engineered handle and slide mechanism. There are better options for makers. But for occasional paper and plastic cutting this is nice. And great price

It is a bit flimsy, but OK. It will NOT retract with a #10 blade. Works with the #11, and #16

Regular #11 blade used to replace the original once dull is to big to retract.

It’s a safety feature to use every time you are done for the moment. Retract the knife to prevent from harming anyone in the middle of the project. That’s what I love the most. It’s comfortable and easy to use.
