This wrench appears to be well built and has a nice weight to it. I really like that it works in hard to reach areas where a strap wrench does not work. I used a half-inch wrench as a handle to turn the oil filter wrench due to the tightness of the area where my truck filter is located. This will now be my go-to wrench, replacing my tried and true strap wrench. Definitely recommended.

This wrench worked wonders on our Ford Escape oil filter. Whoever performed the previous oil change, must have been part gorilla. I could not budge the filter with any tool I had. A conventional filter wrench is useless, given that there is absolutely no room to rotate the wrench. The teeth on this wrench grab the filter from its bottom. I was amazed at the ease it took to remove the filter. Be mindful that the wrench fits filters from 2-3/8 to 3-1/8 inches (60 to 80 millimeters) in diameter. This will not work on larger filters.

I like this oil filter tool because it is versatile and can be used with many different types of filters. The tool is heavy metal and well constructed. It expands to accommodate many different diameter filters and has grips inside to grab the filter tightly. One negative I did notice is that the tool can get stuck in the fully open position and you need to wiggle to get the mechanism to release and retract closed. I have not figured out why the tool gets stuck, but it does not effect the operation. The tool must be used with a 1/2 inch socket handle so if you have a 3/8 inch socket set, you will need an adapter. I have this removal tool in my toolbox along with others and use this one when I have enough clearance to work.

Works well on most filter removals however on a really stuck filter it does seem to slip off. After several tries it did finally get my filter off but I probably should remark that this filter was really stuck on and I had used various methods before getting this to finally work. Problem is that most people over tighten these filters and then someone like me is forced to go through several methods before getting the filter removed. This is a great tool to have and my guess is 90% of the time it will work right out of the tool box, but its kind of "also be prepared" to try other methods. The really nice par of this product is that you can use ratchet extensions on this and so it is my go to for hard to get to filters.

As a mechanic it's frustrating hooking this thing up just for it to not bite into the oil filter. I've had 1 successful use that it actually took a filter off

This oil filter “wrench” works amazingly. It fits into many different applications and definitely will take off stubborn oil filters. It’s a quality item as it has thick walls and sturdy construction. It’s simple to use and at a great price. This will replace my old oil filter wrench. I will say the 1/2 drive kinda through me off at first but as beefy as the tool is built. I guess I could see if you really needed to get on a filter you could pull out the big ratchet and give it a go. No complaints. A good addition to your toolbox.

This thing is built really tough. Very thick walls. I imagine it has no problem dealing with the toughest filters. At the same time, it grabs the oil filter with many teeth, minimizing the chance to crush the metal housing. It can be used with 1/2 ratchet, which is surprising given most filter wrenches use 3/8 drive. But it can also be used with a 7/8 inch or 22mm wrench, giving me a low profile option. I especially like that it is very easy to remove once the filter is loosened. My 3-legged filter wrench sometimes can get stuck on the filter, which makes removal difficult when I am upside down to change a Honda filter.I was initially puzzled that the wrench can only install filter, but cannot remove filter. When turning counter clock-wise, it keeps slipping. It took me a while, but I finally figured out following one of the pictures on Amazon that we have to adjust the two small legs. Now everything works well. If you can't make it work, check out the Amazon stock pictures!

This should largely replace my use of an ever expanding set of fluted oil filter wrenches and simplify oil changes accordingly -> just grab a mating 1/2 socket wrench with this wrench... and I should be set for most situations. Wrench opens wide into into a "loosely locked open" position... place on filter, spring it back into "clamping position" and apply loosening torque to the wrench... and this filter wrench grabs a can-style oil filter well. Some tight-work applications will still require use of a fluted wrench or other solutions, but this should work in most cases. With its mechanism and springs, it'll need a bit more care in handling and storage than metal fluted wrenches... but for the convenience it seems a small tradeoff. Pricing and value seems very competitive.
