This is a must have item for those who are doing any woodturning of larger/longer pieces. Trying to keep a piece that is longer from vibrating or even moving a bit while turning can be difficult if not impossible and a steady rest will help you prevent those and other issues. That this rest will work with 12", 14" and 16" lathes is great, especially if you own multiple lathes across those sizes. I am currently using a 14" Rikon 70-1420VSR, which I find to be the perfect size for my projects but every now and then I need the steady rest to finish something.Setting this rest up is straight forward. It comes with several risers to help you set the rest up on the larger size lathes and a locking handle to ensure that the rest will stay in position. Once set up you can adjust the 3 arm extensions to meet your needs but what I especially like is they have both the knob and locking handles on each leg. You can use the knobs to make your small adjustments and keep the leg in place while checking the others and once done come back and lock them all down with the handle. It makes for a secure rest that won't lose its settings as well keep your work piece from vibrating/moving on you. Being able to hollow out a vase while using the rest versus doing so without one is night and day. How I went so long without a steady rest I am not sure, but now that I have one working on my vases and such seems to be so much easier as well safer.The construction of the rest is excellent. The ring frame is a nice heavy steel measuring about .18"/4.5mm thick and doesn't flex while securing a work piece. The wheels look to be a urethane style office chair wheel, which roll smoothly and have sealed bearings to help keep them free of sawdust/resin dust. It really is a quality piece that functions as one would expect. The best piece of all is the price, this is a reasonable price compared to many other steady rests I compared.

I have an elaborate woodworking shop, but my lathe is just a Craftsman which is on the smaller side of things. The distance between the top of the flatbed, and the chuck on the lathe head is only 6 inches. This unit comes right out of the box fitting that exactly. If you have a full-sized lathe there are large blocks included to shim it up in order to get it centered.The only problem I have is that the two slamming plates that are attached are the exact size I need but they are designed to secure the workpiece to the lathe bed. I know I will be able to devise some alternative shims.The core principle here is that when you are looking for example to drill a hole in the end of a turned post this tool will secure it on that end. Normally you have your stanchion which will slide along the bed and with an end pin hold the workpiece in place. You have to slide that out of the way when drilling or milling the end piece.This unit is substantially made. The metal is very thick and will hold up under stress. The entire unit is adjustable, including the holding clamps with the round wheels. All in all, a nice addition to your arsenal.

This Woodturning Steady Rest surprised me with how heavy, sturdy and well made it is. The included height blocks are 1 inch thick each and allows you to go from using it on a 12inch lathe without height blocks to 14inch lathe using one block and 16inch using both (2 inch lift). The three ball bearing rest wheels adjusts easily using nice handles and the design keeps them firmly in place. Well made, sturdy and good design.

I have three different sized lathes and this works on each of them. The biggest is an 8" and this fits perfectly when using both blocks, which are included. Very steady even at full height. Wheels and adj. knobs stay tightened and in place after being set. Very easy to adjust individual arms to your project. I bought an F shaped brace and sent it back immediately. it was terrible. I also make a round one like this from a bike wheel and roller blades, but this is so much better. Good price and came very quickly.

Well made rest that fits well onto my Rikon lathe The handles on all the screws make it easy and quick to set up. No tools are required. It comes with blocks and shims for various sized lathes. I feel its best after setting up the first time with the correct blocks to then glue or double sided tape the pieces together so it is always ready to use with the right sized blocks. I am very happy with this rest.

Came with missing parts - the long bolts that go into the base to make this work for 14" and 16" lathes. Only the bolt for 12" lathes was included. If I can't get the longer bolts I'll have to return it as it is no use to me.
