Item was supposed to come with plastic caps to assist in connecting the wires. Each container was cracked and the caps removed. Other than that, the device worked fine and instructions were correct

Old one was fried by a nearby lightning strike. This one was a perfect fit and worked just fine. Great price, about half the price of the same item in the local home improvement store.Note that these are not instantaneous devices; they are, by design, slow to react to changing light levels. You don't want it to turn off in response to car headlights coming down the street. Was "on" when first installed, in daylight, but went out after a few minutes, then came on at dusk as intended. Has worked well since.

If you have basic wiring experience you can install this sensor yourself. It works as designed. It needs to be inside of an enclosure for weather resistance. I use it to control my 50W 200 LED driveway floodlight. I bought a small electrical enclosure 3.5in x2.5inx1.5in and BARELY got the sensor and wirenuts inside. After following the instructions and screwing the enclosure shut, I tested it. When the circuit is first powered on, if its daytime the sensor will have to be covered. S tab of black electrical tape over the sensor works fine. The light will not just switch ON. It takes a few seconds for the sensor to switch from off to on. I stood under my 50W LED floodlight at sundown to see how it operated. When it got dark enough I heard the sensor click inside of its enclosure, and the LED array started to faintly glow. Some a little brighter than the others. I was only standing one foot under the thing. As the day turned to night, the LED floodlights panel array got brighter, and brighter with all the LED's the same brightness and so bright I couldn't look directly at them. The next day when I checked the light was off. The my home security LED floodlight functions off and on totally automatic now.

A replacement for an old that served well for many years.

In the past photocells sold by Woods or TORK were of good, equal quality and would last for decades. Now made in China, the Woods seem to have a short life. I have replaced the one in my post light, with its low-wattage LED bulb, 3 times in the last 5 years. The similar TORK 3000 is also now made in China, and costs a bit more, but has a 5-year warranty.

Woods is a name brand. Many copycats that are overpriced and fail. This installs in an electric box. As an extra protective step, I spread clear caulk thinly over the sensor including the base. They include a rubber gasket to guard that connection. But an ounce of protection is worth pound of cure. Very easy wiring. 3 wires, White to white, black to power source and red to the light being connected. All light switches interrupt the flow of electricity. Note there is a time delay when coming on and off. To prevent false starts. Smart. Test your install by placing a piece of electrical tape over the eye. Electrical tape over the end of tube of caulk works best at protecting the caulk for next use too.

This product works just fine it's a reliable small light activated Photocell. It will turn off your other lights or anything else on your circuit when the sun comes up. Note that the photocell has a delay. The photocell does not turn off the lights right away when it is Illuminated. So, for example, If you drive in with your car and the lights are on, casting light on the photocell, it will take 20 or so seconds for the built in delay to turn off your lights giving you time to pull up, turn off your car, and your outside lights circuit will continue to be illuminated. Read the notes in the instructions.

I was replacing a bad photocell in an outdoor wall mount LED double spot. This one that I purchased from Amazon was not an exact replacement part, but had same function. The packaging had been opened and taped shut but as it appeared to be all there, I installed it. I had to do a little alteration in the outdoor spotlight case to install but the screw on nut with rubber washer tightened the photocell to the spot base well. In testing I noted a delay of 1 minute to turn off in daylight test and nearly 3 minutes to turn on with photocell taped off with electrical tape, which is fine unless you thought it was going to be instantaneous.Maybe the last guy who returned it didnt realize that or ...

I purchased two of these and found both to be defective straight out of the package. This was quite a surprise to me because I have used this brand of photoeye before without any issues. One of the two purchased here would not turn on. The other one would not turn off.I bought two so I would have a spare on hand because these things never seem to last more than a year or two. When the first one I installed would not turn on I figured well, every now and then you're going to get a brand new unit that's defective and was glad that I'd planned ahead and had purchased a backup. I wasn't too upset at that point and just went ahead and installed the other one.I was astounded when I found the second one was bad too! Now I'm more than a little upset. I mean, two purchased at the same time and both bad? That's pretty disgusting. So, I installed a Westek photosensor from the local hardware store (at 4x the cost) and it worked perfectly. In spite of my previous positive experience with Woods electrical devices (including their photosensors) this experience leads me to conclude they've gone downhill and I will do my best to avoid purchasing their products in the future. Thankfully Amazon's return policy and procedure are good so I'm not super torqued about this now but I'm sure disappointed in Woods. If you decide to buy this item, I sure hope you have better luck than I did with it.

I bought this at the end of last year for our newly built garage. We've only recently had the chance to get it installed. So far it has been great. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. On at dusk and off at dawn. Was very easy to install. Even though it costs a little more now than when I purchased it ($9.99 in November 2015), it is still a great deal and cheaper than what I've seen in local stores.
