Unit arrived only partially assembled yet did NOT provide any assembly instructions. Was not a great start. However, once i finally had a completed tool to look at, I felt better about it. Most all of the planer is made of a thick, durable metal. The only part that is not metal is the plastic handle. I also liked the fence the runs along the side to ensure you keep a 45 degree angle.

Weighty for it's size this metal bodied little tool does a really nice job. Easily adjustable, it does take some tinkering to get it dialed in just right. But once it's there it works well.The fence works well and helps keep the tool at the right angle. To flip it to the other side you are required to unbolt it from the tool, but that's not hard and only take a minute or two.The handle (which is plastic) bolts onto the tool easily and can be removed or left on at your desire.As with any molding, or even flat plane, you need to take a little wood at a time; especially with hard woods. Small, incremental increases in blade depth will eventually get you to the finish that you're looking for. I used a quarter to half turn each time and the result was very good.

This works well after some tuning. The bit isn't at all sharp, but a little time improves the edge (and the cutting) considerably. As with most molding cutters, you have to extend the bit a little at a time so you don't take too much on each cut. A couple of things to mention:1- it has a small fence attached with small bolts and it works well, giving a larger bearing area and making it easier to hold the angle properly. BUT- if you are going against the grain (usually resulting in bad cuts/tear-out) you can't just flip it over and go the other way. You will have to remove the fence.2- the handle is attached with a couple of small bolts that are different than all the others on this tool. Why didn't they just use the same size for all? Then we would need only a single size wrench but no...3- it has a couple of small level vials: one for horizontal, one for vertical. Neither work well. Seems like a gimmick. Why do you need a level on a molding plane?This plane has a steel body (good!) and it is narrow, a bit over 3/4" wide, and it digs into the heel of my hand a little, making it uncomfortable. The handle helps a lot with this. But the handle seems like an afterthought, plopping it on top of the plane. The natural tendency is to push the plane forward with the handle, but the force goes on the wrong part of the base. One has to push downward, into the heel of the handle, to make it work well.So it's a decent little tool, but you have to use it right to make it work right.

It makes it so much easier to use and to accurate. Grabbing the handle also keeps my hand above my work area and gives me better leverage. I like this better than using a router. It's faster and so much easier to set up. I was very surprised by the sharpness of the blade and the smoothness of the cuts it makes. I also like the fence on the side of it to help keep it level and cutting straight.The fit and finish are very good. The planer is made from a thick aluminum that really feels solid in my hand. It's not a lightweight tool, but rather has some nice weight to it. The red finishing color just adds a bit of pizzazz to it and makes the whole thing look fantastic.This is a quality edge planer at a good price. I am really happy I found this. It is already making my work easier.
