I deconstruct houses to salvage materials for a living. I need to mark a lot of wood (I grade it all, and even mark lengths on a lot of it for easier use in the future). Generally I use a sharpie, but the sun tends to fade it over time. That's when I found out there were "lumber crayons." Brilliant! But of course, being who I am I opted for finding an organic beeswax crayon brand (not on Amazon). So far I find red to be the best color for making both fresh and aged wood.This holder makes it easier to hold on to, and not lose, and store the crayons. Don't listen to the review who says it doesn't hold the crayon strong enough. You just need to really crank down on the compression nut that holds it in place (I guess that's easy for me to say, because I'm notorious for tightening thing too hard).

The WOLF Metal Lumber Keel Crayon Holdher is really easy to use, and it works great! My significant other does quite a lot of construction type work, and he really likes using this crayon holder. It attaches to his key ring too, so it's always nearby whenever he needs it. They offer an excellent variety of colors too (I ordered the blue). They're accurate, easy to hold/grip, and can be used with either hand - which was really important, since he's left handed. It's strong, and durable as well. Overall, I think it's very well made, well designed, and high quality. This keel holder is trash. It won’t clamp down on a crayon with enough force to hold it in place. The slightest pressure on the crayon causes it to slide back down in the holder. This thing is useless.

Not great for a DIYer, as you'll have rare occasion to need it, I feel. Got it for one specific job in particular - wish it would have come with at least one crayon - had to buy a whole pack of them elsewhere (it's not about the price, just about the waste. Unless you're using this on the daily, a pack of crayons is gonna last you a lifetime...)

I like to use thick wax crayons in various colors to mark wood for construction and repair projects, and this has been a game changer. Instead of having broken wax marking crayons in all of my coat pockets, I attach this to my water bottle. The grip is really good and I can easily switch out colors, though I’ll definitely be buying one or two more to hold my three most used colors (yellow, green, and red) so that I don’t have to switch the colors out.I love the carabiner, and the metal is quality and jewel-toned, making it easy to find if it ends up in the snow or dirt, and has so far worked perfectly to improve my organization of marking tools, and the ease of carrying them around.
