I had ordered the 8 qt double boiler and the first thing I noticed was that the insert was not 8 quarts, which is what I was expecting. I didn’t measure it, but I’m guessing it was 4 or 6 quarts and the outside was 8 quarts. I wasn’t really happy about that, but I loved that it was good quality & heavy bottomed, so I was going to keep it anyway. Then I put the lid on it and noticed it was warped. So, I initiated a return and it was very easy to do.I ordered a 16 qt and the insert is 8 qt. I checked the lid and it fits perfectly.Even though a warped lid isn’t caused by damage from delivery, I’d recommend having the package delivered in an extra box. Both boxes had holes in them.

I make lots of soups and chowders. I love this pot because I make a double batch each time because I make one for home and one for another family. All batches have gone smoothly and were delicious. Thanks for a well crafted pot.

The third Double Boiler came through without shipping damage! The 16 qt Double Boiler is heavy at over 11 lbs but the manufacturer's thin box is not sufficient for shipping (as there is no packing material for protection) especially when drop-kicked by USPS. I requested a replacement be shipped in an Amazon Box and the bottom pot also got damaged when shipped by USPS! The third Double Boiler was also shipped in the requested Amazon Box via UPS and it came through without damage. Needless to say, I'm happy with Amazon Prime service! This is my first Double Boiler and I wish I had purchased one long ago. My first use was to make Clam Chowder Soup and it worked great, using distilled water in the bottom pot. Clean-up was so easy! The direct cooking method always ended up with clams and other ingredients burned at the bottom of the pot, making for a cleaning nightmare. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Very impressed with this product. I'm using it to pasteurize milk for my baby goats and it is great.

Only holds 13 quarts. To the rim maybe 14. It must be the bottom one that holds 16. A little disappointed as I wanted to be able to make 4 gallons of cheese. I really like the pot though.

This has been a great soup/chili pot. I have a large family and make many large recipes. The double boiler prevents contents from burning. I could not have gone with a bigger pot as this one just fits under my range and I have a standard kitchen.

Original Review Below... Still 5 stars for this 16 qt. double boiler, but please heed the warning of fake stainless steel of the same. I loved my first one so much (hence the review below) that I returned to buy another "new" one this time (my first was an Amazon Warehouse slightly dented one. The new one was for my sister... first thing I noticed was the riveted handles were somewhat different, not a biggie since that did not matter really, but this made me grab a magnet & test the metal. It did not stick as much to the new as it did to my existing one.... not even close results with the magnet test. Reason for the magnet test? If it is truly stainless steel, not a stainless alloy, a magnet will stick. You can also use it on an induction cooker / burner if it is true stainless. The bottom did stick more, but the sides the magnet stuck just a little. My existing one, dented one, the magnet attached like glued on.The outer box said "Winware" inside the side of the pot had a large round sticker that read "Winco". The brand did not matter to me the quality does!Since this is listed as "stainless steel", which is better quality for sure, that is what it should be! Aluminum by the way has been linked to alzheimer's disease for years. So why would I want to cook with that or expose my family members to it when we have better alternatives. I do not know what the alloy mix of the second one I bought is, but why in the world was my first one bought less than a month apart have any differences at all? Please be careful and test for yourself.I sent back the 2nd (New one) Please check what you have to be sure you have the real deal.Amazing!!! I fit 5 corned beef's in here and still had room to add potato's, carrots and onions... lots of them. The briskest's alone took up about 75% of the space. Really awesome for those few times you need a large volume pot.Really bought this because I wanted to experiment with making cheeses and if you are going to make cheese you might as well make a big batch since it will shrink down tremendously due to the whey.Super solid and does work on my induction burner stove as well, so true stainless steel. (Some have aluminum alloy mixed with Stainless... this one is the real deal)Bought this extremely sturdy double boiler in the 16 quart size. Before I bought this one I have an 8 quart stainless steel very similar that I have had for years and it is my go to for any large batch of cooking. Well let me tell you this one makes my otherwise huge one look so tiny... lol... still can't believe the size difference.I am just loving it. I did buy a warehouse deal repackaged one and it does have a little dent, not really noticeable unless you are me :-) Absolutely love it, and would buy again.

I use this double boiler for cheese making. If you plan to make 10 qt cheese recipes, get this one. For some idiotic reason with double boilers companies tell you the capacity of the outer pot rather than the one you actually will be cooking in. Anyway, the pots work great and so far I have had no issues. Sturdy.

The first set I received came damaged (hole in the box and dent in the pot). The pot was still usable but after spending over $100 for the 20 quart I sent it back. The 2nd one was in perfect condition and the return process was outstanding. I have not used the double boiler yet but one thing I noticed on both double boilers was a funny residue on the inside of the inner and outer pots. It would not wipe off with a paper towel but made the tips of my fingers dark when I swiped the inside. It seems to be a residue from the polishing process is my best guess. I will wash these diligently several times before using and perhaps treat them with something to remove the residue which is an extremely fine dust-like substance. I Purchased the set for cheesemaking which will happen in the summer after the goats freshen. Won't know until then if the residue is a factor in the cheesemaking. If it is I will add to this review. Perhaps a used one would have been a smarter purchase if the residue on new ones is a factor.
