Paper is not very thick, texture shows through pastels. Better to go with Pastelmat

Bought this ream to try out my new pastels. Great paper, nice thickness and really lovely to draw on. Would definitely buy again.

I'm a fan of Winsor & Newton oil & acrylic paints. I've started using oil & soft pastels since they're faster without dry time. I was looking for a pastel paper mostly for dry soft pastels. I do like the mix of grey papers in the pack. I tried a mixed media piece with both types of pastels. The oil pastelswere fine. I was also able to apply some linseed oil with a brush and it didn't buckle paper (but there is some bleed on back of paper). The texture of the paper doesn't work for traditional soft pastels at all. The paper didn't grab the pastels, big dusty mess on top of the paper. No matter how many layers I tried the pastels wouldnt fill the texture so there was the paper color & texture showingthrough. I ended up using linseed oil to fill the soft pastel background to cover the texture and then finished with oil pastels. The advertising that this is pastel paper definitely feels disingenuous if it doesn't work for traditional soft pastels.I may use it for just oil pastel pieces, but even then it doesn't really take the linseed oil super well. So back to my Strathmore mixed media paper but was hoping this would be a professional pastel paper to improve my art....

Four stars off for the deceptive photo on the cover of the pad. The back of the paper is no better. If I could still return this, I would, but I have damaged two sheets of paper. Never again. In fact, after this, I likely won't buy anything from Windsor and Newton.

The paper has a noticable DENT smack in the middle of the pad. Not sure if this occurred during packing because it wasn't pre-wrapped or it was a return and the wrapping was missing . It's too late to reorder, however most artists know that paper damage, I.e. dents, nicks, bends and such can't be hidden with paint☹️. And paper immediately loses its value if even slightly damaged or irregular unless that's the goal. That was not the case here.
