As others have called out, this will not fit into the mouth of a 1 gal carboy. It will also not draw enough liquid to be able to float the hydrometer unless you are using a 5 gal carboy. I still like this and will be using it for my larger batches.

The wine thief leaked. I pulled on the valve (as per instructions) but it still leaks. How hard do you have to pull in order to get it to work correctly. I don't want to pull it off the end of the tube.Received replacement thief. Everything seems to work ok now.

The extractor doesn't fit through the hole in a 1gal glass jug. So close, what a disappointment. Works fine in the wider mouth jars. The hydrometer is good and easy to read.

Liked ease of use, relatively easy to clean and decent price. Unfortunately, you have to be extremely careful as they are not built to take any accidental bumps or drops (even short distance drops); I was not as careful as I should have been - but that's on me. I would buy again.

Overall an amazing buy, the hydrometer was clearly marked and easy to read, and the wine thief seems to do the job well. The one issue I had was that the wine thief wouldn't fit in my 1 gallon carboys (I seal them with a #6 cork, if that helps you get a sense of the size of the opening), which was really unfortunate. But I was mainly buying it for the hydrometer, and, given that the cost of this product was well within the range of what I'd pay for *either* one of the items included in it, I think I can overlook the wine thief not fitting my 1 gallon carboys. If you're primarily looking at this for the wine thief, though, you should definitely make sure that it will fit your carboys before buying.

Works perfectly as a wine thief for testing sg. Just insert it in the wine and it fills up. Then drop in the hydrometer.
