As a marine surveyor I had borrowed one of these for use on a draft survey, but it so far off that it read 1.002 in fresh water. I thought it was just a fluke and later bought my own from Amazon, only to encounter the same error on that one as well. I sent it back for a refund and will never trust a hydrometer of this brand again. I ended up paying twice as much for a British Zeal hydrometer, the original article developed specifically for draft surveys, and it works flawlessly. You do get what you pay for. And sometimes, less.
