One reviewer - an old person, like me - had difficulty with the "button" that has to be depressed to adjust length. I took the end cap off and used a long screwdriver to pull the button in and this made it much easier. I do not think the difficulty in depressing the button is a negative. I recommend the item.

I was so excited to try this when I felt how heavy it was. This will definitely hold any amount of weight or force pushing on your window or sliding door. It looks good, and it's unobtrusive. When it's collapsed, it takes hardly any room at all. It fits nicely in my sliding door track, so I'm actually just storing it there, vertical, leaning against the wall frame so that it's right there if I need it.I got this because I had a trespasser in my yard a few months ago, and by the time I found a rod long enough and strong enough to bolster my sliding glass door, which doesn't lock, the police had arrived and taken him into custody. Having this stashed right in the track can make a difference should something like that happen again in the future, but, as much as I wanted to, I couldn't give this strong bar five stars.The little metal button to push to expand the bar to size is incredibly hard to push. I actually couldn't do it by hand. I was afraid of breaking a nail or pinching some finger skin in the mechanism, so I got a Philips head screwdriver and used that to push down. Even though I could now push in, the juggling act to hold it down enough to wiggle the rod forward by one setting without slicing my hand open with a slipped screwdriver was a whole 'nother battle, and I needed to do this over and over to get to the correct length.I was excited about the small collapsed size of this because it makes it easy to store, but I can't actually store it that way because I'd never get it expanded in time in an emergency, so, all in all, if you need something that will be in the track permanently, then, yes, get this, but if you want to store it in a small space and expect to be able to expand it quickly in an emergency, then this is not the one.I should add that I am fairly old and weak. A younger and stronger person might not have the same issue I had with pushing the release button.

Basement level windows are at ground level - double hung with cheap plastic locks. These security bars add some security to these windows at an affordable price. No longer will an intruder be able to simply force this window open with ease. This bar is going to bring some challenges that will involve breaking windows. Won't stop every criminal but it'll slow them down or deter them away from my house.Sturdy construction. Easy install. No issues.
