Characteristics of Sauna Stone / Sauna Rock

Natural sauna stones release trace elements during the heating process, helping to relieve stress on the body. They have good breathability, allowing steam to pass through quickly and effectively generate steam.

Frequently asked questions

Why do sauna stones crack?

  • Sauna stones are typically rocks that contain trace elements, and their main function is to store thermal energy. If no water is added to the sauna stones, they generally won't crack, but there is a risk of cracking under sustained high temperatures without water replenishment. When using sauna stones, do not pour water on the stones if they are not hot enough, as this could cause them to crack. The amount of water poured each time should not be excessive. It is strictly forbidden to use water that contains humus, seawater, or chlorine on the sauna stones

Rinsed, dried and loaded into sauna heater. Roughly 5-10 min after heater was turned on, rocks started to explode and break apart. Let them cool and tried to slowly heat them to a more moderate temp for awhile to temper, same result. Rocks exploded and broke apart. Doesn't feel safe sitting in the sauna next to these.

I set up the stone in my home sauna. After washing the stones of dust and letting them dry I set them up. I let the sauna heat up and air out before using it for the first time. After about thirty minutes I heard little explosions going off in my sauna. I felt like it was gonna blow up. The rocks explode after being heated to a certain degree. Very dangerous I found pieces of stone all over. I hope that the exploding stones did not damage my sauna!!!

Rocks are big which I like. So far we have run the sauna three times and the rocks have been staple, no explosions.

These sauna stones are very good quality. The size of each stone is consistent with no really small stones.

Well as our backyard sauna is still pending HOA approval so I don’t have these in the sauna cabin yet but I’m so happy I got these!! I love the size of them and the coarse surfaces (for faster evaporation). I grew up enjoying springs and saunas and these are fantastic addition to the winter season. I think the seller might have shipped more than I paid for (I didn’t weigh them but they feel a lot more than 35lbs!) they are in various shapes and very easy to mount up. I can’t wait until they are in use and share more photos then!!

The rocks are very heavy, nice and clean. Most of them are perfect size. Exactly filled my sauna stove basket.

So first off, these rocks are huge and tend not to fit in between the heating elements of my electric sauna heater.I rinsed them off , loaded them up and they immediately began to crackle pop and explode.I read online that this can happen with sauna stones , they just have to get "tempered" so I left them cooking in the sauna heater for a few hours. I haven't heard a peep since. I use these in my electric sauna heater and pour water on them too.
