About this item

  • Whiteside Router Bits are made with Premium Carbide
  • Precision ground for proper balance at high RPM
  • Industrial Quality

Whiteside Machine Company has been in the router bit business for over 30 years providing customer with quality products while at the same time striving to achieve complete customer satisfaction. Several woodworking magazines have tested Whiteside versus the competition and selected Whiteside as the winner for best router bits available in the market. Whiteside Machine Company was founded in 1970 as a general purpose machine shop in the basement of Bill & Bobbie Whiteside's home. Located in Western North Carolina near the furniture manufacturing town of Hickory, the company was often involved in making repairs or special parts for the furniture and woodworking field. A strong commitment to customer problem-solving, a can-do attitude, and innovative ideas, along with a growing core of dedicated employees, helped the business evolve into a manufacturer of woodworking equipment and tooling. Primarily through repeat business and referrals, the tooling business continued to grow to meet a demand for quality production router bits as well as custom application tooling. Today, Whiteside Machine occupies a 40,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and produces a complete line of solid carbide and carbide tipped router bits. Whiteside's quality, innovation, and customer commitment is still present in our superb product line, in the design of custom tooling to fill special customer requirements, and in the development of special machinery and tooling for our own manufacturing use. As always, Whiteside Machine is continuously striving to improve our product through new technology, improved production techniques, and ongoing research and development efforts; along with rigid quality control, vital customer feedback and extensive field testing. Whiteside Machine Company.

I use these to set up tools and do quick reference measurements. Quality is really nice especially considering the price. They're accurate and easy to use. I now consider them necessity in my shop and would highly recommend for others who make things and use tools.

Brass setup blocks plenty good enough for carpentry and maybe some metal work even

Perfect for setting the depth stop on my plunge router which is why I ordered the item. No more guessing if I’m cutting a deep enough dado with my plunge router. Also works well with my table saw too, not just as a depth stop measure but just as handy to verify the calibration of the fence measuring ruler after adding a jig! I’m sure I’ll find more uses for these handy little measuring gauges, I’ve only just started to get in the habit of using them.

I purchased these set up gauges last December and hung them on my workbench in the provided zip bag. I have used them a few times for woodworking and they work great. However, I never thought about verifying their accuracy. After reading a few reviews that stated measured inaccuracies, I thought that I should pull out the digital calipers and do a closer inspection. My results are similar to those that some other reviewers have found. That is, they are not perfect, but they are good enough for the vast majority of woodworking projects. If you want extreme precision, these are not for you. There are inaccuracies or inconsistencies with the set I received, as follows:1. The sides are not equal in width. In other words, if you measure the width of one side, and then measure an adjacent side, you will get different measurements. (see the included comparison photo with thin vs. wide side measurements)2. All of the gauges in my set have a fine machining burr on the end, likely due to the machining/cutting process, which makes the ends slightly wider than the middles. (see the included comparison photo with end vs. middle measurements of the 1/2" gauge)3. The widths of the bars vary slightly as you measure at different positions along the length of each gauge.4. The 3/16" gauge included in my set has machining striations running the length of the gauge, from end to end, on 3 of the 4 sides. (see the included photo showing a close-up of the striations)Now having nit-picked down to the 1000th of an inch, I still am okay with the level of accuracy of this set. I am not a precision machinist. As stated above, these are good enough for nearly every woodworking task that I can think of. I will carefully remove the burring in the ends, now that I know it is there. That will improve the accuracy.Overall, for the price, I think these are worth it. As a woodworker they get 4 Stars, if I was a machinist, I would give them 2.5-to-3 Stars.BTW, I was rearranging my workbench and I wanted a better method for storing and hanging these gauges, so I 3D printed the holder that is in two of the photos. It hangs on standard peg board and is free standing. If you want to 3D print it, the object file can be found and downloaded (it's free). Search: "Set Up Gauges (5-pc.) Holder - Free Standing & Hanging"

I decided to purchase these after reading G. Conner's excellent review. Mine were all equal to or better than the measurements he reported (at least, within the margin of error of my measuring tools 0.0005"). The 1/2" is the most accurate and consistent. I purchased these for use with a precision CNC router, which works to a much tighter tolerance than is typical for home woodworking, but I needed the brass rather than the steel of (much more expensive) machinist gauges to protect the edges of more delicate bits. These fit the bill.I subtracted one star because the ends of some sides (about 1/3 of the 40 edges in question) had raised burrs of up to 0.01" that had to be removed before the bars could be used. That said, they were far more precise than other brass bars and more stable than aluminum gauges. I added the star back because of the fantastic value for the price - easily worth the minor hassle. I will be buying more of these.
