I'm a DJ and have a bunch of different controllers. Some have XLR outs but those are usually my bigger controllers. Often I need to provide music but are placed in areas with little space available so I usually bring smaller controllers that only have RCA outputs. I still need to patch into a professional PA system so I need a proper DI. This has worked well for me. I like the ability to also be able to feed it an 1/8" cable for times when I output direct from iPad, phone or laptop. The little mono button is important as sometimes I only get a single XLR cable that I can feed into and I don't want to just send it one side of a stereo channel. With this DI I'm comfortable sending out something from my iPhone out through 100' XLR to active speakers.

Works just fine and is well made.Even if you're not doing the sound in your shop, if you're on the tech crew, consider having one of these in your bag. You'd be surprised how often someone thinks they can connect their computer, iPhone, or other device to a mixer that only accepts XLR and/or quarter-inch TRS phone plugs, iPhones and a lot of consumer electronics tend to use 3.5 mm, 2.5 mm, and/or RCA connectors. (To be fair, some mixers have RCA inputs on them, but these are often just pass-throughs for a sound source used when your live band is taking a break, and often cannot be mixed with other input channels. Don't make the mistake of assuming every input on your board can be mixed or assigned to any bus you want; check first!)

Easy setup and use. Good for connection between high-impedance signal output and low-impedance audio equipment. No discernible him or audio artifacts, clear sound output.

Very quiet, and is extremely versatile. Great product. Eliminates the need for adaptors, which just serve to add noise to your audio.

This is a box you didn't know you need, until you actually have it! And now I can't perform with out it. Works fantastic to run your computer, ipad, iphone or any other device that has RCA's out into an XLR feed to the mixer. This is perfect for using backing tracks, or ipad/iphone oriented synths, etc. for live music. Personally, I use this to run out of my iphone where I use Sunrizer synth connected to a Keith McMillan 12 Step foot controller. This let's me run great backing pads without the need for back tracks. Awesome!

I bought this for use with my Mac mini. The signal chain was Mac mini 1/8" audio jack out => Yamaha mixer => powered KRK studio monitors. In this configuration I had an annoying level of static, noise and hiss. The bad part was when the Mac went to sleep, the static and noise was very loud. So loud I was worried it might damage my speakers.I purchased the Whirlwind pcDI and put it in the chain between the Mac's audio out and the Yamaha mixer, and what a difference. The constant hiss and noise was gone and there was pure clean sound from the Mac. I still had the greater degree of noise and hiss when the Mac went into sleep mode, but it was not as bad as before.I have since bought an Apogee Quartet and I now connect my studio monitors directly to the output of the Quartet. I am no longer using the Mac's built in audio out. With the Quartet, there is no noise at all. Even when the Mac takes a nap, there is now silence.I highly recommend the pcDI. It's does good job. It is also made in the USA, and feels very solid and well built.

This works great. I use this to connect the audio from an iMac up to a PreSonus Studiolive Soundboard. This is solidly built, and it provides an added level of protection and isolation between your soundboard and computer. You don't want to connect your computer directly without a direct box. Someone could accidentally engage phantom power on your computer input and damage your computer, so this direct box does a good job of protecting your computer. It offers numerous connection inputs and ground lift as well. I gave it four stars because of the price. This is a little expensive compared to other models, but it is also high quality. Remember, you get what you pay for.

We've been using this DI to get our iPod to the sound system for about 2 years now. It sounds great and sets up in seconds. Great device.
