Carbon steel does rust but these were not rusty and not drenched in oil. The tips were in alignment. Absolutely nothing wrong with these. Good quality for the price.

Laying out dovetails is a breeze with 2 dividers and these fit the bill. I use the small ones to set the 1/2 pin, and the larger for tail layout. Tips are sharp. Springs are super strong, so once you set em, they aint moving! Really like these! And for the price, can't beat em.

I can't say what a drafter may like in dividers, but for dovetails, you need 2 dividers, and it's actually a virtue to have them slightly different. They are slightly difficult to adjust without 2 hands (which is desirable as that means they hold the setting), and are sharp and sufficiently sturdy. Clearly these are not top of the line, but they are a great value and very suitable to the task, I'm thrilled with these.

I know that these are cheap... but on one of them, when closed, the points are off by a 1/4" they pretty much become useless. This was the case with the smaller one. The larger one seems fine.

I bought these to practice dovetail joints with- it's handy to have two dividers when making dovetails. They are well-made, strong, easy to adjust, and have nice points to them that make measuring details on wood easy. I'm very happy with them

Both dividers were well packaged in sealed plastic and coated with light oil. Overall the construction looked good but the tips and the inside of the legs are rough ground. That will be taken care of with a sanding stick. The springs are very strong and while you can open them one handed it does take two to close them. With tension off the nuts move freely. On the large set there was a slight misalignment that was easily corrected. Initially it appeared that the tips did not meet but after opening and closing again they did meet.The reason for the 4 star is that there were small things that needed to be adjusted. But overall these are a good value
