ClearCover features a one piece lens and gasket

The WeatherTech ClearCover is at the top of its class in license plate protection. ClearCover is virtually indestructible plate cover and frame with a clear polycarbonate lens and Multi-Flex gaskets that seal out moisture and dirt and prevents license plate damage caused by UV rays.

  • We recommend locating your back-up camera lens and determining if the license plate frame would cause interference when installed on your vehicle, it is not possible to fit every configuration.

  • Yes. When installed properly, the two top screws will keep the license plate/frame secured to the vehicle.

  • The Click-and-Stay caps can be removed by inserting a small tool into the holes found at the base of the cap and using leverage to pry the cap into a released position.

This is a pretty attractive piece, so I was really hoping the reviews were wrong. However, contrary to what WeatherTech claims, it does not accommodate a normal license plate. It can only accommodate the paper insert that comes with the package! Do yourself a favor, people, and avoid the trouble of a return and genuine dissatisfaction, and don't buy!

The WeatherTech ClearCover is outstanding! The sleek design looks great on my car, and its high-quality construction ensures that my license plate is well-protected from the elements. The clear cover is crystal clear, allowing my plate to be fully visible while providing a layer of protection against dirt, weather, and debris. Installation was a breeze, and it's been performing flawlessly ever since. Highly recommend this product for anyone looking to keep their license plate looking new and secure!

I like the look of this plate cover. It’s super slick looking. It is made well and has a nice gasket that looks like it will seal up nice if it sits flush against your paint or plate bracket. On my rear lift gate it does not sit flush because of the plastic body plugs that the screws go into. My one gripe with this plate cover is on the one long edge you see where it was cut out of the mold or extruder. It looks like the same person that trims Husky floor liners. It’s quite rough looking and pretty lengthy.

Love it. Have it on the front of my BMW M3 and X5. Fits well even with a slight curve and comes with a number of screws to support the common threads and then some.I actually used the Leftover screws on my rear CF frame. Looks great and easy the clean.Have had this frame on my M3 for almost 3 years and still looks great!

I've read the other comments, so I thought that I would add mine, and address a couple of the objections raised.First, the ordering process. The way that these are described hereon is confusing. I settled on what I ordered after a half hour spent trying to see if what I had was the same as what I was seeing. The descriptive terms and the titles both need to be revised. That said, these are great plate covers as long as you realize their limitations. First and foremost, you cannot rely on the cautions against using them with your car. I've been using the same type (the plastic, clear cover with gasket ones) for many, many years, and when I searched to see if what they were selling here would work on my cars, the answer was "No". However, when the plate covers arrived, they were the same as those what I had on my cars (only new), and fit without a problem. So, the fit/no fit decision is best lest up to the test when received, not to Weathertech.Second, securing the plate into the cover can be done several ways, but I think that mine remains the best. Hie yourself to Lowe's or The Home Depot and buy a few of their white toilet seat cover bumpers. They cost about a buck a piece, and come with their own securing screws. Toss the screws, use the short license plate bolts shipped with the covers, and screw them through the cover, the plate, and then into the bumper. The screw threads hold securely for as long as seven years (the longest that I've had a set so configured) and the connection is both secure and free from any hazard of scratching your paint work, since the screw does not protrude from the bumper. Problem solved. (And, the weight of the bumpers damps down any tendency on the part of the plate to rattle as well.)Third, when installing the covers, be ultra careful when tightening the bolts/screws. I use the torque limiter setting on my electric screw driver, using the configured tool to first drive the screws at the "4" setting. This tightens up the screws to when they hold, without cracking the plastic. Then, slowly and carefully tighten them up with a manual screwdriver to where they are snug, but not overstressed.Fourth, before assembling the plate covers, I always wax them front and back, and on a yearly basis, I repeat the process. This protects the plastic from the "frosting" tendencies that some plastics exhibit in our polluted air. The one sit that I did not take this precaution with was the one on my band trailer. This cover was usually kept in the garage, and spent very little time outside and exposed, but inside of a year, it frosted up. My others did not. Finally, do not accidentally push on the plate cover with your knee when lifting something out of the trunk. They will crack if subjected to this type of pressure. All in all, a great product, if one with some limitations. In any event, far better than their poorly fitted trunk liners...

I purchased one of these to test out after new plates were recently issued to me. I just got done installing on the rear of my '99 Land Cruiser. I experienced some installation issues. Almost everything you may need is included in the packaging. Only a Philips screwdriver is required. It's made of good material. It's not a flimsy $10 frame/cover. You get what you pay for here. I understand this to be an American manufactured product and I'm certainly willing to pay a little extra for that. However, do not expect a completely brushed stainless frame (chrome-ish) look. The edge of the cover facing you (in the picture) is bare stainless steel. The sides of the cover and the hole covers are black. Look at the pictures on the WeatherTech site. I was fine with the mixture of stainless and black. The plate attaches to the back of the cover and there is a rubber skirt around the perimeter of the cover that the plate should fit into. If you don't have a standard size plate, it likely won't fit properly. This skirt just barely covers the edge of the plate. There is little to no overlap. If your vehicle has four holes for plate mounting, and the mounting holes are not raised, and the mounting location is perfectly flat, then this plate will likely fit perfectly and create a nice seal between the cover and the car body. For a lot of vehicles (including mine), this won't be the case.In the case your vehicle has only two (top) holes for mounting. Weathertech provides machine screws and nuts to hold the bottom of the plate to the cover. However, one major problem with this is that the nuts attach to the back of the frame and they stick out. This means that when you attach the cover using the top mounting holes, the nuts/screw-base will cause damage to whatever surface is beneath it (painted body, plastic, etc.). In my case it was painted body. So, my (quick) solution was to use my glue gun to cover the nuts with glue (and let it dry) to create a non-abrasive backing. The other problem created with only having the top two mounting holes (and using the nuts/machine-screws for the bottom) is that the cover will never create a seal between the cover and the car body. Eventually, I'll get some binder posts, so the fit will be flatter and potentially allow for a seal. You could also drill new bottom holes to get around this issue, but I was ok with a little gap between the lower part of the cover and car body. Remember, you're going to be removing the cover and plate every year to apply new license tabs.Bottom line is this is a well-made product, it will protect your plate, and provides a good look for your vehicle. In my opinion, the product could be improved by a few, easy design changes:1) A better rubber skirt to affix the plate to the cover, while creating better protection for the car body2) Allow for two-hole mounting, while still maintaining a seal between the cover and the car body (simple fix - provide binder posts with protective backing, instead of protruding machine screws and thick nuts)It seems both of these recommendations could be easily made. Then, this would definitely be an outstanding product. Even without these changes, I'll be buying another one for the front.
