Great for the price. I used it to track the maximum power used by my computer.

I bought the Ketotek meter and a similar-price Suraielec meter to compare them. The Ketotek is easy to use, and has nice-sized buttons for switching between modes. All the functions worked as advertised. I did not test for accuracy against a known reference, but the voltage was 120 +- 0.2 as expected. All other measurements looked reasonable for our toaster over. I especially liked how easy it is to reset the cumulative kWh and time data. The back-lighting makes the data very easy to read. The bak-lighting stays on longer than necessary, but does eventually turn off automatically. It comes on again when the user pushes one of the display buttons. The Suraielec has smaller buttons, and is difficult to reset. (You have to stick a paper clip into a small hole to reset the cumulative kWh data.) The Suraielec back-light turns off after about 20 sec. Push any button to turn it on again.Note: after my original review (now edited), I found that the Ketotek back-lighting turns off automatically after several minutes. Hence I raised my rating from 4-star to 5.

I bought two of these to see what our refrigerator and freezer needed for power so I could provide backup power from a solar array. While I intended to get a Kil-a-Watt, those do not have the ability to track the in-rush current. This is important because a compressor will need lots of power at startup. The Ketotek was able to display the Max power needed when the compressor started running so I could account for the needed load. It also showed the Min power, the standby power, where basically just a fan was running. So I found this quite useful in knowing what the equipment demanded for short and long term use. While some reviews complained about the difficulty of use and poor instructions, everything seemed straight forward to me. And no App is needed for this device to be useful and provide the data. Resetting it was easy, too.

I use this to control a heater to manage my LiIon batteries during winter, both to keep them warm, and to enable disable the chargers in case of over temperature, or under temperature. Seems to work well so far.

It helps determine the max and running wattage of plugged in appliances, which in turn has helped me set up a plan for when I use the generator. It even displays Hz, a double check of the frequency of the generator. With some generators the frequency is adjustable. I haven't checked whether it is with my generator. The current limit seems to be up to 16A (depending on the voltage). I'd rather have 20A in the US. Plus, I gather that the default overload power limit is 3600 W, and that in the US the user should change it to 1800 W. I think that's a mistake, as I doubt many would make the change (I haven't - yet). And instead of an overload alarm, the unit should trip off (and be resettable). But maybe that's expecting too much from an $18 item. So I'm keeping the 5 stars.

The Kill-A-Watt is a great and attractively priced meter every home should have. It only measures continuous load. With solar power packs and inverters to convert battery DC to 120V AC the inverter will have a peak Watt rating. This is especially true for air conditioners and heavy power tools. Those are things you might use camping or on a jobsite. This meter measures peak load (along with continuous load) to help determine if your power pack inverter can handle your peak load.It is only slightly more expensive than the Kill-A-Watt. Gift your Kill-A-Watt to a family member or friend and upgrade to a peak meter like this. Like the Kill-A-Watt, it will help you to understand how home appliances contribute to your electric bill.

Edit: the company sent me a replacement unit and everything works beautifully. I have adjusted my rating to reflect the company's efforts to rectify the issue and I appreciate their customer service. My initial issue is still below but it has indeed been corrected and is no longer an issue. The + button does not work which is the button that shows the watts draw, the main reason I purchased the unit. This also prevents me from setting the costs and any of the limit alarms.

I bought this to monitor the energy use/duty cycle of a small space heater I use for supplemental heat. It seems to work fine and the wattage draw appears consistent with what I'd expect to see.I like that, with a little bit of fiddling, you can put in your current, local kwh cost and have it do the math for you automatically so you can see total cost over time. You don't really need that, but it is convenient. What don't I like? That the display isn't backlit. There is a small blue light that turns on when power is running through it, but you will need to supply enough light to read it, which turns out to be somewhat inconvenient given that most outlets are not exactly at eye level. If I were improving this product I'd make the display bigger, add a backlight that could be turned off, and angle the display slightly so when it is plugged into a normal outlet it is easier to see when looked down on from above. But overall, it seems fine, and I'm not unhappy I bought it over the much more expensive name brand one we've all heard of.
