Never knew I even needed one of these. But decided to detail a car really good. Glad I did after seeing the grit at the bottom of the bucket when I was done. Nice thing, just leave it in the car wash bucket for the next time and shouldn't need to buy another one again (unless you do the 2 bucket system). But it should last forever.

I have wanted to add one of these dirt traps to my car washing bucket for a long time. Up until now I have only seen them as part of some kind of car wash kit. I already have a bucket and all of the car washing sponges, brushed and mitts that I like and couldn't see making a bigger purchases than what I truly was going to use. I was thrilled when I saw this unit available as a standalone item for purchase. The bucket bottom is nicely made, not flimsy in anyway and has a set of standoffs that keep it well off of the bottom of the bucket. This creates plenty of space for grit to settle out well away from the wash water that is going back on the car. The funnel patterns it seem to act like a one way valve letting the grit settle out while making it so it doesn't get swept back up into your wash water when a sponge or mitt is swirled around in the bucket. Definitely an overdue addition to my car wash bucket.

I have been using the Detail Dirt Lock system with the pump attachment in my rinse bucket for about 6-8 months now and love it, but have always really wanted another one for my wash bucket. But I was too cheap to buy it again. So I went with this and for 1/4 of the price it is definitely a much better value. The design is nice. In theory it should make the dirt much more likely to stay trapped in the bottom of the bucket. My only issue is I wish it sat down further in the bucket. I use a 3 gallon bucket for my wash bucket and a 5 gallon for my rinse. Both of them are standard size. In the 3 gallon bucket it sits just under the half way mark on the bucket. In the 5 gallon bucket it leaves about a third of the bucket unusable. This is a common complaint with all grit guards. I would love for it to sit about 2-3 inches from the bottom of the bucket, but that seems to be nearly impossible. Even though most buckets are standard size it seems that there is some small variance and that affects the fitment. I plan to get some different buckets to try in the future. I have heard that Home Depot sales a translucent white 5 gallon in the Paint department that isn't as tapered that works better with all grit guards.Even with the negative this is definitely worth $10. If you care about your finish you should definitely be using some kind of grit guard. If you aren't looking to go overkill and just wants something that works at a full price this is worth picking up.

Very good wash bucket filter that fits standard pictured buckets. This dirt trapper works as intended and fits buckets very sturdy so it doesnt move or float as it is filled with water. I highly recommend this. After washing my vehicle, i found this to hold a lot of dirt at the very bottom which really served its purpose and saved my vehicles from getting scratched!

This fits my 5 gallon bucket perfectly and catches larger debris in the bottom, smaller dirt will still suspend in the water unless you leave it to settle. I was both skeptical and unrealistically hopeful about how this would work, but at the end of the day I'd rather have this in the bucket than not. It's easy to clean and doesn't take up much room in the bucket either. Thankfully I don't usually get much large debris, yet it's nice to have some added assurance that it won't end up in the wash mitt.

I was skeptical about getting a grit guard for my car washing bucket because I didn't really understand how these could keep dirt and debris from swirling around in the bucket. I thought that they just keep your sponge from falling to the bottom of the bucket where there's greater chance of picking up grit. And so for many years of car washing I just made sure not to drop my sponge down to the bottom of the bucket. However I looked at this one and decided to get it. It's designed so that there are these funnel shaped holes at the bottom. When dirt gravitate down through the funnels, the idea is that it'd be hard for swirling water in the bucket to move particles up above the layer of funnel holes. Also, there are for standoffs that keep the layer of funnel holes above the bottom of the bucket.

If you're don't already know what this does, it's great to keep contaminants out of the mitts, brushes, and sponges you use to wash your car. Perfect for that second "rinse" bucked that is kept sperate from your soap bucket. This trap is well made and far less flimsy from others I've seen, and the cone shaped openings at the bottom are perfect to KEEP dirt and debris at the bottom of your bucket.100% would recommend this if you actually love your car and enjoy spending time handwashing it!

This product is for all of us who try to take a little bit better care of our cars than the average owner. It's the sum of all the small things that can keep your car looking better than the one next to it and there's always going to be someone who is willing to go to further extremes and effort to achieve this. I've never waxed my current car, but I do try to wash it frequently by hand. I start at the top and work my way down. I rinse frequently to keep soap from drying on the finish. I only use car wash soap and a microfiber wash mitt with gentle pressure. If hand washing is not feasible, I only use touchless car washes. Etc., etc., etc. Now I add to the list that I have a "Dirt trap" at the bottom of my bucket. I just dropped it in, and it fit perfectly. As you wash, you dip the dirty mitt into your wash water which releases sediment into the water. Instead of trying to make sure that I don't allow my wash mitt to touch the bottom of my bucket where all of the sediment settles, this trap becomes a barrier and helps ensure that I'm minimizing abrasives that will mar my finish. Simple and effective.
