I'm in the habit of reading others' reviews before sitting down to try something, and after reading the reviews for this gel plate I didn't have high expectations. I'm going to leave a couple of tips in case you buy one of these, and my thoughts on the product overall. The plastic sheets are a pain to get off, but there's a couple of things that help. First off, make sure they're room temperature; anything sticky tends not to do well with temperature extremes. Second, go slower than you think you need to. You *can* get the plastic off cleanly without damaging the silicone plate, but it's going to take some patience. Third, I found it helpful to work from alternating sides of the same surface; once the plastic's off, it'll still stick a bit to the silicone but not nearly as bad as when it was first applied. Fourth, once you've removed the plastic from the first side, put it back on and put that side face down on the table; it makes it a lot easier to get the second piece of plastic off.Once you've gotten through all that, this plate works pretty well. It's a total magnet for every speck of dust and cat hair you didn't know you missed, and even after a careful cleaning it sill retains a bit of a tacky feel. That being said, it took ink well (I used Speedball fabric ink) and gave me decent results. Cleanup wasn't the easiest, but I've had the same issue with other silicone plates I've used, so that's not somehow unique to this one.Would I buy it again? Not sure. The thing is, there are plenty of tutorials online for making your own plates, so it's not like these are the only game in town, and that's especially relevant because it's also not like they're the cheapest option among the many others out there. I think I'd be willing to give it another shot, even though there's some part of me that'd worry about getting a dud. YMMV.

This gel plate works very well. I often use a glass plate for printing, but a flexible gel plate is really great when working with textured items like thick leaves, ferns, small twigs and other bits of nature. This plate should last a long time. Use one side first and when it has seen better days, flip to the other side. It cleans up easily. Very pleased and I can recommend it.

I have an 8x10 gel plate and wanted a smaller one so got this. Before using it I read the reviews so was firm, slow and careful removing the protective plastic sheets. Even so, there is a place at one edge where there is a very small tear. If the paper stuck when pulling a print this tear could enlarge past the edge. So I have to hope I’ll be mindful of using the other side of the plate to keep it whole. As far as using the plate, it works as expected. I had some problems but that was due to the paper I was using which was too thin. Applying the paint and pulling the prints was ok. The smaller size is very handy.

This is my first gel plate, so I have nothing to compare it to. I am having difficulty with consistency when applying paint, But you tube , artists say that's to be expected. The plate has to be broken in. My only other Issue was the type of protective film they put on it. I almost tore the plate and hurt my hands trying to get that off! And I had to buy a tin to store it in, because the packaging wasn't even a clam shell that you could continue to use. So plan on buying storage tin. Nearly 3 months has passed. I LOVE GEL PLATE PRINTING! SO fun! Inexpensive way to be limitlessly creative!
