The paint beads on these plates for a long time before finally settling into a usable printing plate.

These plates are of a very nice quality and for the price you get more than enough--now I can work on multiple projects at the same time! They're reusable and clean easily. They seem very durable and the surface is smooth, which is ideal.

The original and the best, the Gel Press gel plates are an amazing and fun way to do monotype printmaking. I took printmaking as an art major in school and always loved the one-off, one-of-a-kind nature of mono printing. I have been watching gel plate videos for years before taking the plunge and these are just fantastic. The plates are nice and thick, durable, and just perfect for printing on, you are literally only limited by plate size, paper availability, and your imagination.Pro tip: place these over a piece of plexiglass as you are building up your layers so you can lift it off the table and easily see your design building up as it will print on your paper.Absolutely thrilled with these! Can't wait to create some fun prints.

I've been doing monoprinting with silicone plates up to now. I haven't picked these up before now because they seemed expensive. I'm in the habit of telling people to splurge on the expensive stuff because it's typically better, and these plates remind me that I should take my own advice more often. They're a higher quality than the cheaper plates, with a smoother surface, and they don't seem to be silicone, so they should be a bit easier to clean and condition (you can use baby oil on these, which you're not supposed to with silicone). There are enough plates that you'd either have enough for a small class, or for a large project, or the ability to work on several smaller projects simultaneously. I should've gotten these sooner, but you don't have to make the same mistake I did. Get yours!

Gel plates are a fabulous way to express your creativity in short bursts of time. The work I do usually involves many passes on paper that has to stay under pressure and then dry between techniques. Having multiple gel plates allows me to cut down on the in-between time. There are few brands out there. This is the brand I use for classes and 8 x 10 is actually considered a larger size. Monoprints are satisfying to create and every failure can be considered a resource for the next collage. Being able to make art without a printing press is truly liberating.
