This ladder is stable and good size for our above ground pool but when the out side steps are locked in up position and you want to put them down be extremely careful. The steps slams down really fast!! This feature is very dangerous as it happened to me when it slammed down my fingers got caught and I have a crushed knuckle, very bruised 3 other fingers on my left hand. This happened when steps were sliding half way down. If the steps slammed all the way down from the top it would have severely cut my fingers off. This is a very dangerous feature on this ladder!

I wasn't sure if I should purchase this based on reviews, but I did anyway. To clear up the question of whether or not this is sturdy depends on you. The directions say to screw the top of this ladder to your pool. If you do that it is very sturdy. I attempted not to do that at first and it definitely wobbled. If you refuse to place 2 holes in the top of your pool, then you will have trouble with this ladder. I bit the bullet, screwed the holes and all good! As far as pieces go, yeah you have to put it together like anything else. I was able to follow the directions just fine.

Bought an Intex 15x48 pool this year. The ladder it came with wasn't much more than thin metal and plastic, so I didn't trust it to hold my big self up. Read reviews on this ladder and decided it'd be good value and way better quality.Big mistake. This ladder has only been used on 2 different occasions by (mostly) kids ranging from 40lbs to 100lbs, and adults up to 275. The second time it was used, the sliding part of the ladder popped out and collapsed! I had to risk injuring myself to get out of the pool, as did friends. It was very scary! The steps are flimsy as are the handles at the top. I truly don't think it should be used by anyone over 200lbs.The ladder was fairly easy to assemble once we figured out what to do. The instructions weren't super clear. My husband is really good about assembling things, and even he had trouble with the directions. We finally figured it out though. I believe it needs a lot more longer bolts than it came with. We'll be investing in some safety stuff for this ladder going forward.

The item was delivered. At that point 5 stars. I opened the box to check the contents and first thing I notice there are absolutely no instructions. I hate to think the manufacturer wants their customer base to guess at how to put together an item that has those same customers relying on the safety and reliability of said item. Just dropped to 4 stars. Would have been 3 stars, but I'm pretty good at figuring out how some things go together and work. Then I see a part is broken off and laying in the box (too bad the instructions couldn't have laid there with the broken part. It was a part that made it possible to lock the sliding ladder up to prevent unsupervised children or unwanted gusts from accessing the pool. Fortunately that part could be put on the inside of the pool and the other locking mechanism (on the outside of the pool) was still intact. Still holding at 4 stars, just barely. Then almost immediately I learned there are NO (Zilch) packets or bags of hardware necessary to correctly and safely put the ladder together. Even though I'm good at figuring things out the fact there is no hardware drops this item to 2 stars. I know I could have run to the local hardware store and purchased the various items (only guessing at what items are required) but after spending more than $220 for a complete ladder, I refuse to be the patsy. I'm not all that interested in the instructions (which would be nice) I am EXTREMELY interested in the hardware required to build and utilize the ladder safely and properly. The broken part; could have been the ex-baggage beaters making the delivery. Instructions: possibly available online. I'm very disappointed in this purchase.UPDATE. Was immediately contacted by the seller who made every effort to rectify the issue of missing components. The ladder is a really good ladder. Yes, somewhat difficult to put together, with or without instructions. (was able to download from website) Took about 2 hours overall. It is a very stable ladder, and heavy enough to not float off in the pool. Will have to secure it to the pool though, but mostly because of the way people pull back on the rails when climbing up. Not an issue since every ladder we've had over the last 10 years has had to be secured. I did use nylon lock nuts on the assembly so there will be no issue with the nuts coming loose.

We purchased this ladder as a heavy duty alternative to the ladder included with our pool. We wanted something that would last without rusting and wouldn't be so wobbly. We also wanted something that would convert to a "deck ladder" once we decided to build one. The safety feature seemed to just be a nice bonus since we don't have any kids. Putting it together took a few hours with 2 people working on it. The instructions were a little confusing, and the steps seemed a little mixed up, but we figured it out eventually! Here are our biggest concerns so far...1. The slide-lock feature is a nice idea, but it doesn't work as well as it's intended. On our first use, it kinda got stuck in the up position, and while trying to lower it, my husband nearly cut his fingers off! It slammed down on them really hard and actually cut him pretty bad! Imagine if that had been a child's fingers...2. The specs. stated that it holds up to 300lbs. That is true, as my husband is about 280lbs and nothing has broken yet, but you can def. feel the plastic bend under your weight. My sister, who weighs 140lbs. even commented that she thought it might not hold her...3. It is very wobbly. It's terrifying to climb up and down, and that is one of the very reasons we didn't want to use the original ladder that came with our pool.Long story short, if it wasn't such a hassle to return this, we probably would do so.
