I bought the larger 8.3 x 30 more expensive lathe because I thought the smaller lathe was too small and that the extra money might buy better quality. I WAS NOT WRONG!There were none of the problems listed in the reviews of the VEVOR lathes. The ways are smooth and straight, no loose bolts or nuts, The tail stock was aligned perfectly with the head stock and are parallel to the bed when checked with a calibrated laser. There is evidence of hand scraping here and there. Everything listed in the ad was actually included in the shipment. A big bonus is that most of the upgrades shown on youtube for the mini lathes have already been made. Roller bearings have even been installed and the gears are metal. The only negative is that one of my slides is a little tight and needs to be adjusted. So, instead of this lathe being an "almost finished lathe KIT", it could be used right out of the box. After a good cleaning. It did come coated with a lot of grease. So my suggestion is the save a little more money and buy the better quality lathe so you can start using it rather than "fixin" it.

The tooling post height is not adjustable so you need to purchase an after market one to make sure your cutting edge is centered. Also the tic marks don’t have units shown. I’m assuming everything is in millimeters but don’t know for sure. Nothing in the manual about it. Other than that it works well.

I was initially severely disappointed with this product because it would not power on. I contacted customer support and after around a day they let me know the simple but counter-intuitive procedure to return on the machine and it worked. Why was this information not prominently included in the manual?!Anyway I am happier now. Seems like a good machine and is quite feature-rich.

No chance you can figure out how to thread with the gears provided. Plus the auto feed feeds toward the chuck??? Not normal they ussually feed away. The precision is pretty good for making bushings etc which is its main function for me . For threading not good
