Installing on a 2007 Buick LaCrosse. Removal is easy with a small blade, medium to long shank straight slot screwdriver. Since the factory install had the gas chamber connected to the body and the rod connected to the hood, I tried the same. Long story short, when trying to mount the new one, I discovered that the end mounts needed to be unscrewed and swapped. The end mounts were not hard screwed on and the swamp and subsequent mounting went without any problem.BTW, this was not in the instructions.

Usually, I would not give a review on something without thoroughly testing it, but... When I told my mechanic I bought after market tailgate struts for my daughters "New" 2015 Subaru Forester, he said flat out "they won't work. You need to by OEM and its gonna cost you like $140 each," He used to work for Subaru so he KNOWs Subaru's so I was disappointed. I responded unenthusiastically "I already bought them might as well try them." Today I called him to ask him how the inspection was going on the car and he offered to install the struts. He was amazed at the quality and said he'd never seen such quality on after-market struts. They fit perfect and are working perfectly!

I purchased these last year in preparation as my hood was starting to have issues staying open last summer. I just installed these and they were relatively easily to replace, once you realise that the clips need to be pried holding the thin-bladed screwdriver to be aligned in the same direction as the shocks in the middle on the side opposite the socket. After that, it took all of 5minutes to remove the old ones and install the new ones. The silver piston rods were noticeably thicker than those on the OEM shocks... but they fit without issue and after replacing the first one the hood stayed aloft without anyone holding it. It also now takes more effort to close it tightly... but that should not be an issue as it provides more stability when driving.I am just glad that this was so easy to do and so inexpensive... since they might be somewhere near twice expensive at a parts store.
