VABIRA's DLI Meter lets you track, up to 180 days, how much light your plants receive. While it has room to improve, it is simple in operation (once you get the app to find it) and offers quite consistent readings.Delivered in a plain and sturdy carton with plenty of padding, the DLI meter is of simple and solid construction. With a dense construction, the body of the DLI Meter feels pretty sturdy. With a battery already installed, a simple plastic ground stake, screwdriver, and instructions are included in the box.To use the DLI Meter, you will need to install the "Vsensor" App from the Google Play Store. As far as I can tell, an iOS app is not available, but I do not have access to an iOS device with which I can definitively check. The app is simple and well-behaved, even when it is blocked from running in the background or accessing the internet. It did take a bit of fiddling around to get the app and meter initially connected, but now they sync without any issues.Readings are reported in DLI (mol/m²/d), with the total amount of light for the day constantly updating.Used for the past week in my tent, with lighting on a digital timer, the readings are very consistent.Until now, I have had to rely on the Photone app on my Pixel phone, uncalibrated and without a diffuser, to dial in my lighting.Using the VBR-20 meter, I have found that the app is reading too high, with an actual DLI consistently at 35, opposed to the 40 I was targeting. As it is advertised and delivered, it works quite well. That said, it could offer quite a bit more from the existing hardware.I am very disappointed that there is no option to get an instantaneous PPFD reading from the app.The meter is obviously capable of making the measurement, as this is what is used to calculate the DLI.If the app were to expose this value, it would make setting up the grow tent much easier. This change would really increase the usefulness of the DLI meter, and would take 0 hardware changes to do so.While the short ground stake is pretty functional for outdoor grows, it is less useful for indoor grows.Due to the inverse-square law, we know that the amount of light reaching the plants drops to 1/4 strength every time you double the distance to the light source. For the sun, it is far enough away that there will be no noticeable measurement error, regardless of where you place the meter. In a grow tent though, the light is quite close, and even a small change in distance can make a big difference in the volume of light reaching it.I really would like to see an updated mounting system for the DLI Meter.Something like a telescoping stake would be a simple and cost effective way to increase the usefulness when used indoors.Even better would be a hanging mount, so you could suspend the meter at the correct height.Myself? I used some plant ties to hang it at the correct height, directly under my LED fixture. While there is room for improvement with the DLI Meters app and mounting, it is still a solid device that offers consistent readings. For this type of device, the 50€ (at time of writing) asking price is quite reasonable. It really could be so much more though, if only the app would expose some extra functionality.

In contrast to the impression I got from descriptions and reviews, you do not need to keep the app open or the phone nearby for the light meter to work. It keeps recording while disconnected, and when you want to read the results, you push the button on the meter and then click in the app.Seems pretty similar in accuracy to the $300 one I had before this that died due to rainstorms (though I can’t directly compare them). This one so far hasn’t died from rain though I haven’t left it out in major storms.

This VBR-20 DLI meter measures the daily light integral in the 400-700 nanometer wavelengths of light, which are the frequencies that plants use. It uses the DLI because it balances the length of day with the amount of photons (expressed in a meter squared). Other measurements are not as handy for growers because they either measure frequencies not useful to plants or don't factor in the day length.Set up is super easy. You load an app and connect via Bluetooth to the meter to get its data.UPDATE after 30 days: (see screenshot) I stuck this in a flower pot on our patio. As you can see, we're in deep shade. My max reading is around 2.3 but, to get partial shade, it needs to average above 4.I'll report back when I get enough data to share.

This worked great for about two weeks. It was helpful in the information it gave me. Now the green light no longer comes on and I cannot connect to it to download any information. Wasn’t worth what I spent on it.

It seemed like a good value but it has to remain connected to Bluetooth to get an accurate reading. Unfortunately the app kept crashing on ios for me so I was never able to get an accurate reading. I will continue to mess with it and update if I am able to get it to give me a proper reading.

Cool DLI meter. Easy to set up and use. The app works good and easy to navigate. One button operation and connection to the app. The readings are easy to retrieve and read from the app. The meter itself is well made. Sealed seams so it is water resistant. You must have the app to get the reading from the meter.

If you shop around, you're not likely to find a DLI logger anywhere near this low price, and that makes it worth a look. It's simple enough to set up, and depends on an app to view the data. I've attached a screen shot from my unit, placed a few days ago in a partial/mostly shaded area in my San Diego backyard. Average December DLI for this area without shade, according to the "U.S. Daily Light Integral Map", is 20-25, so these numbers are plausible. To connect the app to the logger, you need to press the yellow button to start up bluetooth communications. You can then view the current collected data (as in my screen shot). The chart is useful and easy to scroll through; I'm not sure what the numbers and buttons below the graph are for. When you're not near the logger, you can use the "record" button on the Devices page to see the data collected in the past.Bottom line: for very little, this product gives you an easy way to see how much illumination you're getting from the sun or from indoor grow lamps. And there are plenty of resources online if you want to learn more about DLI and how it affects your garden.
