I am a soils inspector, this probe is sturdy and the stainless steel makes it look nice, my only complaint is the handles are to small.

Pointy enough to find 24” deep drain pipe but not so sharp it would penetrate it. Super sturdy, we really leaned into it and made about 4 times as many holes as we flagged. It never felt like it was going to break or bend. Definitely happy with it.

Good quality steel rod with a good weld at the handle. Worth the extra money over hollow rods.

I ordered the Varomorus Stainless Steel Soil Probe Rod for locating sprinkler lines that I installed last year but will need to reroute this year. I ordered the 42" option which is just right for being a good height for me to place on the ground to begin probing. I think if it was longer it would be too high for me to be able to get my weight on (I'm 5'8"). The length is also sufficient to reach the buried electrical conduit that I also installed last year (much deeper than the sprinkler lines).A consideration of which to choose is how much of the rod do you want to be out of the ground once you locate your target, such as are you okay with the handle going all the way to the ground, or do you want a couple of inches above ground (which I think is easier to pull back up).The rod does have iron in it, based on a magnet being attracted to it. The magnet was not attracted to the handle. The ease or difficulty of inserting and removing the probe will depend on the soil conditions. I'm dealing with mostly clay and it is early spring and we have had a LOT of moisture this past winter, so the ground is wet at least as far as the probe will reach. Pulling it back out was difficult because the moist clay created a good seal between the soil and the probe, such that I was pulling against a strong vacuum because air couldn't get back into the hole until the probe was fully extracted.I put my weight on it several dozen times (160 pounds) and it does NOT appear to have bent from the use.Like any probe you might use, the larger the target you are trying to locate, the easier it will be to find. I was searching for a 1" sprinkler line and it was much trial and error; I'm glad that I didn't use 1/2" pipe for the particular line. The weld between the rod and the handle is barely visible and is smooth!I figure I can also use this to poke some holes around the perimeter of a maple tree that I've been trying to nurse back to health with liquid iron on the roots, so facilitate the nutrients getting to the roots.I highly recommend this product!

I needed to locate a bunch of buried 4" PVC underground drain lines around my house. Add to that, I also needed to locate 2 main septic outbound lines. Enter the Varomorus Stainless Steel Soil Probe Rod. This is one nice, solid piece of probing beast. No wobble, no flexing. The T handle is just as solid, and pounding on it (with a large hard rubber mallet) to urge the probe thru some layers of hard clay and embedded gravel left zero dents, dings, or even finish mars on the slick polished finish. I have some hard clay, and layers of gravel to push through. I weigh 200#, and I needed all of it in some spots. The hard, bright finish on the rod slid thru the hard and graveled soil as easily as one could expect, considering the soil conditions. When I pulled it out, the slick surface of the rod came out nearly clean; no clumps and only a few clay streaks. The handle is the same smooth bright finish. This this is a probing beast. Two big thumbs up.
