I didn’t buy this to use as advertised so only parts of my review will be helpful I image. First, the pieces fit together easily and are sturdy once assembled. Now I’m using it to look for layers of gravel while river fossiling and it works great and is certainly well worth the money given the unique use I’ve put it to.

Broke the first time using it.

Probe came disassembled. You just need to screw as many of the foot-long pieces together for the length you want (up to 4'), and screw that in to the handle. The picture in the listing shows many more parts - that seemed a little misleading to me. Seems sturdy enough - I'm using it to locate gopher runs - but as you continue to use the probe, the pieces start to unscrew easily. Kind of annoying as you have to stop every minute or so to tighten everything. Other than that it seems to do what it's supposed to. The point is very sharp - if I were using it to locate underground tubing, I'd be a little worried about puncturing something. But I guess that's the price you pay for having something that can go into the ground more easily.

It's not sturdy. It comes with 4 parts that you need to put together. Once it's assembled, it's wiggling. The rod looks very fragile and about to break, ready to bend, upon first use

This is an unbranded product, also sold by other merchants (see those listings for more reviews). You may need to moisten the soil first if it's very dense and dry. - Stainless steel (smooth & rustproof) - Solid...unlikely to break or bend - Threaded sections. Stores in a tiny box (3-1/4" x 1-1/4" x 16-1/8") - Tough plastic grips - Sharp tip (can blunt it slightly if worried about pipe damage) - Spot welds near tip were slightly rough (easy to smooth with a file).

We recently purchased an old homestead. A 1960 country house, with mid 1900’s septic lines, and years of pipes to the house from several wells. Plus, steel and plastic pipe buried for barn power and water. I’ve already learned to check before digging with the backhoe! This “ACTOMALL Stainless Steel Soil Probe Rod,48 Inch Adjustable Ground Probe Rod with T-Handle for Locating Septic Tanks, Underground Pipes, Gopher Runs or Treasure” probe has been a real time and pipe saver. The T-handle makes it easier to probe, and the smooth walls penetrate better than rebar with a welded handle. A great, handy tool, and a great value.

This is a review for the Stainless Steel Soil Probe Rod,48 Inch Adjustable Ground Probe Rod with T-Handle for Locating Septic Tanks,Underground Pipes, Gopher Runs or TreasureThis is a great stainless steel soil probe. It screwed together easily and was simple to tighten up to make it very sturdy. So far I have used it to locate my septic tank and lines. I will also be using it to find soft spots prior to pouring a pad for a new workshop.

When we moved into our current house, my wife started a vegetable garden. A short while later she was hoeing and watched the little bean plants being pulled down into the ground. At the end of the season, I was digging potatoes. The plants had grown up bushy and beautiful, but there were NO potatoes. A short distance away we found a cache of golf balll size potatoes. My wife is a live-and-let-live type of person. But don't mess with her garden. So she declared war on the gophers. Unfortunately, they outnumber her. This soil probe is the latest weapon she is using to find the gopher tunnels and remove the gophers. It is the best tool yet for the purpose.
