Double Ended Screws are self-tapping wood threads at one end, which can be directly locked into the soft material (wood). The other end is a mechanical thread, which can be locked with the nut. I used these for a special project where the flat end is inserted into a cedar ball by using a drill press to make a pilot hole in the ball and then slowly spin the screw into the pre-drilled hole. Well, 2 or 3 of these screws (out 20 in the package) are slightly bent and would not go into the hole straight, so basically lost 10% of the screws due to the imperfection. Quite a few of them were kind of dull at the sharp end, making the installation by had a little difficult. Also, the flat end doesn't have the star shaped hole as shown in some of the advertising pictures.

I searched everywhere for these and was thrilled to finally find them. Wish I didn't have to wait for them to come from China. But they fit and I used them to mount drapery tie-back holders.
