It's not stated in the specs but this is a make-before-break (shorting type) switch. That is what I wanted and I'm glad it worked out. Another reviewer of a similar device found out the hard way that it wasn't what he wanted. Also, the connection pins are the type meant for a printed circuit board and not for discrete components, but I made it work anyway.

Excellant switch, and Im sure happy we can still buy "old school" parts like this.

These units are good. But, the steel ball that sets each position can fall and there is no "lock" for each switch position. Contacts still work when that happens.I would recommend to force the unit to the extreme positions (pass the lock) 10 or 20 times. At least the one I have fails fairly quickly doing that. If it survives, then use it. If not the mechanical stops are too far and allow the ball to come out of its position. You can still use it, but no "lock" to each position.Contiguous contacts are shorted when switching, so make sure that your design allows for that.
