I bought this to replace a burned switch on an electric, oil-filled radiator heater built in 2008. While I thought I had done a decent job of measuring, I was wrong. I got the specs, capacity and basic configuration correct. But the switch stem on this switch is far bigger than the original one—more than a half-inch, requiring some substantial drilling of the heater housing. That’s my fault, not the switches’ fault. Advice? Measure, measure, measure. On the original switch, check the voltage capacity, amperage capacity, the number of settings (such as OFF/LOW/MED/HI) and whether the new switch configuration (square pancake in this instance) will be thin enough to fit in the confines of its housing. How about wire retention? This one uses spring-loaded clips inside the housing—push in the soldered lead of a wire until it locks into place (you need to unscrew the housing cover on the old switch to release the wires from their spring clips). There’s a lot to think about when you aren’t just buying a replacement part from the heater manufacturer ( in my case, it’s obsolete and unavailable). I am not wild about the switch detents on the new switch. They’re a little sloppy but the price is right. So far, so good after using the repaired heater twice.

The best thing I can say about this product is that it worked, and at 5 dollars including shipping, I have nothing to complain about. I did have to reroute the neutral lead for my box fan, and I had to splice in some heavier gauge wire on the load lead in order to get it to fasten securely to the switch terminal. If you are using this switch for multiple resistances (multi-speed fan for example), you should pay attention to how the leads were wired in the old switch if the order of speeds matters (for example, low- medium- high versus high- medium- low). This might seem trivial, but if you use the device primarily at one speed, you probably don't want to have to continually turn the switch three times to get the desired setting. That would just make the switch wear out faster, which is what happened to me with my old one. And the switch is fairly cheaply built, so it isn't going to last forever. Not complaining, just being realistic.
