2. There is an integrated magnetic hall effect sensor that outputs an electrical pulse with every revolution. The hall effect sensor is sealed from the water pipe and allows the sensor to stay safe and dry.
3. Three wire connection: Red for positive, black for negative, yellow for pulse signal.

Update:After opening up the item i realized why the output is unreliable. Poor design with holes lined up. Since the screw pattern is the same I was able to rotate it one turn and now it does what I need.I bought two of these. Installed first one. output voltage was all over the place (bouncing back and forth between 5v and 0v) so i tried the second one. When water started flowing it took approximately 6 seconds for it to go from 5v to 0v. I stopped the water flow and it stayed at 0v. Unplugged power and waited 10 seconds, plugged back in and reading 5v. tried it again, this time when it goes to 0v it stayed.
