This needs to remain plugged in. It's not rechargeable. I bought two of these, one for each backseat thinking they would work in my old car (that only has one power source), so returned one.

These fans easily attach between the posts of a car's headrest.The fans can be controlled independently of each other. They can be aimed in any direction even back to those in the front seats.This is also equipped with a light that is controlled via push button.
