These work great with my Mac Mini M4 to get two-channel, optical, digital audio out, which is my primary use case. Nice, clean sound. Tried directly connecting them to my iPhone 16 and got a subtle, annoying hum in the background of the audio, so wouldn't recommend for that.

I bought it because my computer motherboard doesn't have an optical, and it connects well to the sound bar, so it's good.

I got it this so I could get audio from my macbook pro into my RME AD-2 DAC fs.The good new: it works. If you were on the fence, it absolutely works for outputting audio from the laptop. Works very easily, just select the audio device from system settings to USB PnP Sound Device. The bad: the sound quality lacks. Maybe I have a much lower tolerance for less than optimal sound, but comparing it to my PC connnected via USB, it cannot compare. It is not even close. I have tidal hifi and the difference is immediately apparent: sound feels very muffled, the loudness is about half of what you get from the USB connection.I was tempted to give it 3 stars because doing an a-b comparison, it is BAD. But I think most people's scenarios who will be looking at this adapter will not be the same as mine, and will be much more tolerant to the level of quality coming out of this adapter. I don't want to make it seem like it sounds distorted, or has any artifacts. It is just about 10% of the quality of the USB connection, letting the DAC do the conversion on its own.TL;DR: it will output sound from your mac's USB to optical with no issues, but don't expect anything close to an audiophile presentation.EDIT: The laptop itself is a LOT better at driving Hifiman Arya Stealths than this thing connected to the ADI-2 DAC fs. Cleaner and louder. So basicaly a waste of money if you can go almost any other route, like me. If you can't, then it still has its use.

Hooked an old laptop with touch screen to my forty year old Sony receiver's SPDIF port. Turned it into a nice point and click ROON server. The sound quality is very good especially when going through the old wired Bose speakers. Mounted the unit in the garage and we use it for outdoor parties. This is a no-brainer hook up via USB to any device with one. I've also test it on an Apple iPad (the Bluetooth died) using the lightning to USB camera adapter and it works just as well. Very versatile product.

Bought this so I could take USB digital out of the computer and use the DAC in my main amp to turn it into music. It does this perfectly. BTW it comes with an optical cable.

I used it only for two days and hoping it will work because to get a proper sound you have to unplug and plug every hour. I am going to order the same one to see if the item really works so stay tuned!

Worked like a charm however, the optical cord included did not connect properly into the block pcs but I had already purchased a optical cord prior to buying this and it connected perfectly to the block pcs, sound quality from my soundbar is great! Well worth the purchase besides the included optical cord being cheap and ineffective
