I bought the set for my daughter and me. I’m teaching her basic watercolor techniques. It’s small enough so she does get overwhelmed and can finish projects in a relatively short time, which is perfect for beginners. Paper quality is great.

For the price these are fantastic. No bleed with Guache or watercolor so far and great size.

Beautiful, small travel watercolor journal for a very reasonable price. The paper has a nice smooth (hard-pressed) finish perfect for the pen and ink + watercolor sketches that I do. Very convenient size and nice linen cover with elastic band to keep it closed when not in use.

I love this book. I bought the 8x8 and it’s perfect for me to practice in. You can work on both sides. It’s not 100% cotton but it works great still. It does make the paper not flat like it was before, but I enjoy that plus it’s unrealistic to expect perfect flatness from this type of paper. I paint on both sides and it doesn’t affect each other whatsoever. I’m so glad I took a chance on this. And it’s a steal of a deal for two! I’ve used a sharpie marker and it doesn’t bleed through either. It’s a good book to practice in.

The paper is really nice, it has a little texture but not much. The paper is able to withstand a little scrubbing to lift colours without pilling. The paint colours are nice on this paper,they aren't dull. The cover feels nice and looks nice. There isn't a pocket inside but I don't mind I never use them anyways. They lay flat enough. I am very happy with them and would order more! 76 pages or 38 sheets each.

The paper is really nice for pen, pencil, watercolor and probably even more media that I haven't tried on them yet. Plus the notebooks open flat. I like to draw when I'm out and about. These notebooks are small enough to carry in a large purse, and there's a nice neutral cover, no ugly branding.

I really love the size of these. They are beautifully bound and the cover is sturdy and feels great. Tye closure is nice to have to keep everything secure. The paper is disappointing as it buckles with watercolors, which is what it’s marketed for. Improve the paper inside for a five star review.

This journal surprised me. I read the same experiences from other reviewers and had to try it out for myself. The books are beautiful inside and out. I am using one for a field journal and the other to work at home. One thing I wanted was good paper to work with, but not have to pay alot. I am on a budget so getting a 100% cotton journal wasn't an option. I have been looking for paper to paint on that isn't super expensive and finding journals that also weren't too expensive. I also wanted one that was hardcover and well bound. These also lay flat which makes it really easy to work in. I love the landscape layout for field journaling. These are great and hit all the requirements I had for a good travel journal. Excellent paper, construction and value. I highly recommend for practicing and field journaling. Also great for beginner artists, because the paper is great and absorbs the paint very well. I will buy these again.

Tengo varios cuadernos y papeles de acuarela. Estos han sido mis favoritos desde el primer momento. Estaba buscando algo amplio, pero no alargado, con absorción pero no necesariamente de 300 gr (ya tengo 3) pero que si pudiera usar de ambas paginas. Pasta dura para proteger mi trabajo y no demasiado caro. Con este juego lo encontré! Compre el pack de 2 y ¡estoy muy contenta! era lo que buscaba. El papel es de 230 gr, tiene una linda textura vertical, es suave, la acuarela fluye muyy bien por la hoja, el color es blanco marfil, muy lindo, no amarillento, absorbe excelente el agua. Aguanta lavados y/o varias pasadas. Los colores se ven muy bonitos y puedes usar ambas paginas. Valen mucho la pena 😉

The hardcover with linen is beautiful. The paper is pulp-based rather than cotton however it’s of good construction and nice to work on. A lovely sketch journal for watercolours.

I wanted inexpensive, but sturdy watercolour sketchbooks for a travel journal/visual diaries. I sometimes use a lot of water, but mostly average, I should think. I also use Tombows and Pentel black brush pen a lot. I have always used Pentalic, which is my absolute favourite, or Moleskine, but wanted to try these US Art ones as they are at a very attractive bundle price. Yes, the paper is not as delicious as Pentalic or Hannemuhle, but its fine! I find that it works for me, and after all, although I want to produce good sketches and play a lot with colour, I am not producing work for competition or sale…its the fun of the process and the precious memories that count.I have included some photos of the size in comparison with an average sized 8”x5” range sketchbook and this one is a bit larger, which Imke. It also has more pages - and yes they do buckle, but I rather like that, and they don’t Buckley much more than their expensive counterparts. The buckled, puffed look of the sketchbook once filled, seems to say “Ha! Been there! Sketched that! Got the memories!” Nevertheless, I always use both sides of a page/sheet, and found no ink or paint leaking through.So although the quality is not 5 star when compared with the top of the range journals, it is pretty good for what I want, and very good value, so I have given 5 stars.And also, the pages open flat to allow double page sketches. I did not find that the differing surfaces bothered me - rather, I enjoyed the challenge as both had their advantages. I’ve included a sketch of a fox squirrel, done in my son’s garden (oops apologies - that’s a “yard” in the US).I hope that whatever you decide to buy, you will have heaps of enjoyment and satisfaction sketching your life.
