Heavy weight paper. Nice linen texture, acrylic paint adheres nicely. An alternative to canvas for practice.Linen texture is interesting, possibly other uses such as charcoal or pastels?

These pads are not the cheapest, but the quality is quite great, if you are just learning I recommend buying one of the cheaper ones to practice more. Once you get a little better, transition into these heavier and better quality pads.

Strathmore 400 is great paper. It's thick (246 pounds) so it lies flat, and it has Goldilocks texture -- not too smooth, not too rough, just right.The one Strathmore 400 product that doesn't get 5 stars is the watercolor block. The sheets are difficult to remove from the block, and each sheet comes away with glue and paper from the sheet below. Buy pads, not blocks.

Love this for acrylic paint pouring. A lot of satisfaction and less cost than canvas. Has the added benefit of directing flow more precisely and thereby creating shapes. Be sure to dry on a rack for even air flow. I pour with paper on a (packing) styrene/foam tray after manipulating paint and then transfer to the wonderful economic Sax rack sold here. I love how the edges bead, that is sit atop the paper, making the image a bit raised. When dry, I store in the plastic and archival board kits available here on A.
