It works, whew! The only thing that differed from the YT video I used to realize I could do this is that the fan assembly has a mount screw, which I transferred from the old assembly. Once unboxed, this was about a twenty minute project. It's good to have a handvac to clean out the dust from behind the old assembly before installing the new assembly.

I got this mainly for the mounting plate, as I wanted to add the LED light upgrade to my old fan without having to climb up in my attic to replace the entire unit. I have the old, larger A variant. The new light has pressure springs to hold it in place, whereas the grate it replaced was held in by a screw in the middle. The old mounting plate did not have the holes for the retaining springs, nor did I have the proper tools to make the holes (believe me, I tried). The mounting plate came with a motor that I didn't particularly need, but it is quiet, and it was nice to not have to unscrew the one I had and put it in there. The mounting plate fits perfectly in the existing can. All holes and tabs are in the right place, and it went in with no issues. The holes for the retaining springs are perfect, and the new light is securely in place.

This does not work as a replacement for a Broan 663-B/688-B A-HOUSING fan out of the box, but you can make it work with a bit of modification. The screw hole is about 0.1" off from where it is supposed to be, and the stiff portion of the AC power plug is too long, preventing the fan cover from being inserted properly. I solved this by drilling a hole in the correct location and splicing the AC power plug with the low profile one that comes with the original Broan fan.

It fits perfectly to my legacy and works great! The noise level is noticeably lower compared to the old one.

Simple to install? Plug and play. Keep and reuse the old mounting screw.

My old Nautilus N688-C fan* started getting loud, then stopped running altogether. I tried cleaning it, but couldn't save it. The 688c fan uses the old "A-Housing" can, which measures 8" x 8 1/4" x 3 3/4". Standard exhaust fans today seem to overwhelmingly use a smaller can (7 1/4" x 7 1/2" x 3 5/8"), and so installing an entirely new unit wasn't going to be a simple 1:1 swap.Broan sells a replacement fan assembly that fits the old "A" cans -- part number S97012029 (available at Amazon at time of posting). It runs at 4.0 Sones, and I was looking for a quieter unit (my old fan was listed as 2.5 Sones). This 2.0 Sones unit fit the bill. It only took a few minutes to install. The fit was not 100% perfect -- the screw hole was off by just a hair, even after finessing the positioning with the side tabs -- but I was able to make it work. The fan is quiet and effective, and runs better now than it has in at least four years. * Broan-NuTone absorbed Nautilus some years ago. As far as I can tell, my unit was identical to the Broan 688c. I believe the 688a through 688e all used these larger "A" housing cans.

I need to replace a 40 year old Broan 689-C fan. I found this fan on Amazon and it was just what I needed. It fit perfectly and was very easy to install.

I had a non-functioning bathroom fan for far too long and wasn't able to find a replacement fan for my Broan 663-C at my home improvement store. Realizing it was not a parts store I decided to search for a suitable replacement at Amazon and found this replacement by Motoasis. I liked that it was described as upgraded pure copper motor. I compared the accompanying picture to my fan and decided to order one.It arrived in a few days and I was able to swap out the old fan for the new one. It was a perfect fit and easy to install. The Motoasis fan is very quiet which is an improvement over the old fan which was noisier when it worked.A couple of weeks earlier I ordered this same fan as old fans in both bathrooms had quit working. I was so pleased with the first one I couldn't wait to get a second fan for my half bath. Now I have two quiet bathroom fans and I am asking myself why I waited so long to replace them!
