The housing showed up looking like an exact replacement so after swapping out the parts, I was good to go. Or so I thought. About 7 minutes of driving later the car started overheating. In the seconds that it took to pull the car over, the temperature went from just above normal, to 3/4 of the way to the max. The car was smoking and was towed back home. Upon inspection I found the issue. The hose that attaches to the highlighted area in the picture had come off. That surprised me since I remember pushing the hose on as far as physically possible. The problem was that the metal clip that secures the hose, is supposed to be seated in the groove which it was physically impossible of doing without modifying the hose. This renders the new thermostat housing useless and will have to be replaced. It's unfortunate because it seems visually appealing enough otherwise. However, after working in the cold and in the dark after work putting this part on, and then having the car overheat, the product can't be more than a 1 star. I don't know if I got an anomoly part but I do know that the hose that connects there is still the original and can't be the issue.

Leaked like a sieve right off the hop, my mechanic said the groove for the gasket was too large.

Perfect fit, just as described, make sure you know which part you are ordering, a lot of people mistake this for the housing that's on the drivers side of the motor and it is not. this part is on the passenger side of the motor by the air intake on the turbo 1.4 engine

Definitely liked the looks of this Metal T-Stat compared to the stock Plastic for my 2012 Chevy Cruze and took a chance on it. I think this will fit all of the 1st Generation ECOTECH 1.4 Engines. Because the price is so cheap, and the fact this Type of Stat is electrically assisted, No doubt worried if it would work ok. So far , everything good with no problems with or without the AC on after a few weeks in the car. I was hoping this Stat would run a little cooler than the stock stat, but it appears it doesn't. Running temps will modulate between 217° to 223°. Stock Running Temps for the 1st Generation ECTOECH 1.4 Engines is 221°. I also have a 2014 Buick Encore with the same engine to compare running temps and it performs about the same. These T-Stats on the ECOTECH 1.4 Engines have an electrically assisted heated T-Stat . The only purpose of this is to Open the Stat Faster to sudden changes in Load. According to the manual, the Electrical heater in the stat starts warming up the Stat Element at about 194° and then the Mechanical part of the Stat opens at 217°. The newer 2nd Generation ECOTECH engines starting in 2017 do not have this feature anymore ( much better) and the Stat Temp is set at a much cooler 176°. The First Generation Chevy ECOTECH 1.4 Engines had a very bad problem with Overheating. Another thing that is not good about this design, is that IF the little heater element shorts out in the T Stat , it can blow the ECM ! Glad they got away from this in the newer ones. Will follow up this review with reliability updates after more time.

GM puts a plastic pos on these cars and they WILL fail, so don't waste your time and just buy this upgrade before your replacing a head gasket or even work a head.

Great price and prompt shipping but ..... I entered my info in the "see if it fits" and got back Amazon verification that it does fit my vehicle. Unfortunately it did not ! I needed this part PDQ so I set up a return and ordered from another vendor using the exact same info as before. This time I got the part that was indeed the right one for my vehicle. Not sure what is going on here but in any event the parts exhibit quality build as good as anything you could get locally.

I had a 2015 chevy sonic ltz sedan. I wish I knew that having a metal housing was an option because I went through 3 plastic OEM housings through the life of my car before I finally saw this one and installed it. The original part is garbage it WILL crack on you as it did for me and pretty much any other sonic owner. There are a ton of threads on how terrible the plastic parts are and that you should immediately swap it out for an aluminum one like this one. Do yourself a favor and save yourself car troubles by just replacing your housing even if yours isn't cracked yet, with this one. It was easy to install, I don't know much about cars or working on them and even I was able to crash course through the installation process. Good part, did its job, didn't leak, and was able to get my car back up and running just in time to trade it in for the new one I have now. 10 out of 10 would buy this thermostat housing.
