Installation Assistance for the FJA Products Universal Spools
FJA Products Universal Spool Installation for Brother, Hermes, Smith Corona, Royal, Olympia, Facit, Olivetti and many others
The FJA Products Universal spool has an expanding center core. The core has a "star" shape. Please insert with the star side face down into the spool cups. The star can expand and will fit down over the vertical prong (called the spindle). Most spindles are 4mm however the core will expand to fit over larger spindles found in the Olivetti Typewriters and can even be removed if needed for the Remington Typewriters.
When inserting, the spools in your typewriter, you will see a smaller vertical prong. Place the spool over the spindle, and press firmly. Place one of the cutouts of the star over the little prong. This is how the spindle advances the spool when you press the keys to type.

The image above shows the spools are placed properly into the spool cups. Both the lag and lead spools are firmly pressed onto the both the large spindle and the smaller spindle. The spools should be level and should not tip or rock when placed properly in the spool cups.

If your Remington portable has a larger spindle (as shown in the photograph above).
Please push the star shaped center core out of the spools. You can use the back of a pen or a pencil. Once the center core is removed, this will allow you to place the large opening over the large spindle found in some Remington typewriters.
Please remember this item is described as 2 inch diameter, so if your Remington has the small spool that measure 1.5 inches you will need to rewind the new ribbon onto the smaller spools.

The ribbon is great. No issues whatsoever. The packaging is sealed very well in plastic. The colors are exactly what I would expect, which is blue and green. They dry instantly on the paper. No smearing of any kind and the typeface is perfect. Very easy to install. Thank you for such a good quality product. Will definitely buy from this seller again.

I really love the shades of blue and green that FJA have chosen! They're both very pleasing and dark - not too bright to use for serious correspondence, but also more fun than the plain black that I usually use. I'll definitely be buying again when this ribbon runs out.

FJA has been around for years. Have been buying their ribbons in many colors. Typing is an old way of communicating but with ribbons of different colors other than black or black / red - it becomes a new medium.Try Black / blue or blue / green or brown / orange -- or the "solid" ribbons of blue, green, brown, or purple.Try the festive green / red for holidays! They even have a solid PINK if you are inclined to that type of writing. All in all a good investment in writing. FJA ribbons last a long time, even up to two years of regular use.For those who make a mistake, there is a "corrective" ribbon of black / corrective tape. This unit allows you to have the correction right on the typewriter. ALL you need to do is back up to the typo, shift the ribbon into the red position, type the typo over - now in white - backup, switch back to black, and redo the typo. It is hardly noticeable because it is in the exact position of the type line and lines up perfectly .with your writing. Enjoy! I have been using FJA since I first found them back in 2012 and have been a very happy writer ever since.

Pink is a touch red, but really great spools of ribbon. The spools do seem to be universal, no problems on any machine I have. Ribbon is strong, haven't torn one yet, and I do have some machines that have that tendency. This one came a little wetter than the others, and the top blue ran a bit into the green, but it's still highly usable, and only the top of tall green letters catch any blue. Will certainly buy more. maybe one of each. really hi-quality, very pleased. Appear to be USA made too, bonus.

The colors I purchased were the Blue/Green combo, and I must say they're perfect. I'm thoroughly impressed. These fit my 5 series Smith-Corona perfectly. They're veteran made and just a great addition to any typer. I highly recommend them and will be back again soon.

Works great in my 80's Royal typewriter. I wish the colors were a bit lighter in shade, but it's totally sufficient and beautiful.
