Used my shredder for the first time today. I loved that it was much easier and quicker than what I previously did . I was a little disappointed that there were big pieces of cabbage in the bowl. I was expecting it to be more evenly shredded . But overall I still like it much better than using a knife or dragging out the food processor!

It took me a couple tries to get used to the technique, but wow. I can go through a full cabbage in 20-30 seconds and everything comes out perfectly even and consistent compared to several minutes of careful and laborious cutting by hand with inferior results. If you do a lot of sauerkraut, then get this.

Thought it would help with shredding cabbage for making Sauerkraut. The cabbage pieces were way too big and the wooden thing to push was useless and I even found some wood pieces from it within the cabbage. I'm still mad at myself for buying this expensive piece of wood.

This is an amazing product, but know that you are buying an untreated wooden tool from a carpenter. As such the quantity available of these is on the lower end, and you should take time to finish the tooling process at home. When you receive the shredder the wood will look bone white like the product pictures on this page from Raw Rutes. After 3 - 5 layers of flaxseed (aka linseed) oil over as many days it will yellow and take on a lovely shine. Some fine sanding prior to an oil finish can also help smooth the edges and the fitted track for the cabbage carriage.Always know where the blades are when oiling or washing your shredder, and respect where your fingers go when handling it.You will come to appreciate this tool a lot more for the time and care put into it completing the process personally and it should last for many years.

For years I had used a metal cabbage shredder. It was more expensive and larger but cut comparatively large shreds and the toothed pusher caught on the blades and didn't shred the larger leaves; I did that with a knife.Having decided it was time to replace that shredder I discovered this one -- in standard size, not the compact -- and just shredded 3kg of cabbage for 'kraut. Fast, easy, complete, and fits within the busing tub I use when shredding cabbage for sauerkraut or cole slaw. The shreds are very thin; perhaps 1-2mm and, except for the occasional flat leaf that won't move across the blades it does a thorough job with each quarter cabbage. When you buy it, give it a few coats of food grade mineral oil; it sucks it up and the oil will protect the wood and extend the shredder's useful life. It's well worth the price if you regularly shred cabbage.

The shredder is too small to shred any largish quantities of cabbage. The top part of the guard is almost impossible to hold and push the guard and cabbage at the same time. Therefore, the guard is useless.Waste of money.

Recently I read an article about the connection between sauerkraut and cancer. Apparently doctors found a link between Polish immigrants diet before and after they come to the US. The probiotics in sauerkraut play a significant role in cancer protection. We as a family love cabbage and sauerkraut so I decided to buy a cabbage shredder. After some research, I found The Harvest Fiesta compact wood cabbage shredder. Some of the major advantages of using this wood cabbage shredder are as follows– Compact size, so that it can be easily handled while shredding. Not much space will be required to store the wood cabbage shredder after use, making it suitable for small kitchens.– The shredder is made of quality beech wood, which is lightweight and will last for a very long time– Three high quality sharp stainless steel blades are included, so that cabbages, vegetables, and hard fruits can be shredded quickly– For fingers protection, a wooden hand guard has been provided on the rails of the wooden shredder– The designer of the shredder has ensured that the screws are on the lower side of the shredder so that the shredded material does not accumulate on the screws and can be easily cleaned– Detailed instructions for use of the shredder are provided including a recipe for Coleslaw– The wood shredder has been imported from Slovenia which is well known for making high-quality shredders which last for decades– Warranty of manufacturers covers any defects caused during shipping– Handcrafted for high quality and ergonomically designed so that the wood shredder can be used for a long time without causing any discomfort. There are no significant disadvantages of using the Wooden cabbage shredder. However, only limited quantities of the beech wood cabbage shredder are available.– price may be higher than low-quality shredders made from plastic and metal.Wooden kitchen tools are just better and last way longer. Unfortunately, I was not able to find something like this in a brick store, so Amazon was my only find.
