I live in the Phoenix area and my 1 acre yard has this hard pack layer of caliche (hardpan or calcrete) about 6-12 inches under the surface. It's like a naturally forming concrete and there is no digging through it by hand. I use my jack hammer to bust through it for planting landscape and setting posts.This spade is an exact fit for my XtremePower jack hammer / demolition hammer with 1-1/8" shank. I had previously purchased a spade bit but the edge was so thick and dull it offered a lot of resistance to the jack hammer and was not effective, forcing me to use my chisel bit. I tried grinding an edge to it but the steel is too thick and hardened. This spade is much better. It is still thick and durable but not too much, and it has a sharp edge already on it. It chisels into my hardpan. Initial use shows no wear or dulling of the edge. I think the hardened steel will last and this spade fits my needs very well.

This fits my Makita Breaker and does a great job digging in tough soil and breaking up clods. I found this ot be a great way to dig up tree roots and with the breaker I can get through the roots like butter. The metal is hard and tough, the shovel shows very little signs of wear despite being used to take out a rather large tree stump, and lots of river rock that had to be removed along with a lot of hard clay. I expect this to last a long time and through many tough and rough jobs.5 out of 5 for tough, and rough, and clean work.

I got this primarily for removing floor tiles and wow does it do the job.The tiles were bedded in thin set mortar and this thing lifted them as quickly as I could advance the demolition hammer.The wide spade shape works well to lift the tiles without gouging the floor as may happen with an aggressive tool with a chisel point. Don't ask me how I know.This thing buzzes through soil like buttah, although with a combined weight of 25 pounds little holes are more practical than say, working in a trench.The material of the spade is good; not too hard, not too soft.It fit my SDS Max demolition hammer well.Verdict:Recommended.

This thing is crazy! It is solid as can be. But that’s a great thing when trying to remove tile flooring. I didn’t use it for digging but I can see how it would be a pro at that as well. Just put it in the SDS rotary hammer and watch it go! Great value for the money and will save my back for any future tile removal projects as well! (Which there are more than I would like to admit in our house)

I just ordered this tool because I was going to dig a trench, and it has been really effective. It's compatible with different rotary hammer brands as long as they are SDS max, the quality of this tool is superv, while digging I encountered various materials like gravel and hardened clay and it's been withstanding the work load easily without getting worn out prematurely, I really think buying this was a wise decision, now I can do the whole work in a fraction of the time.
