I have owned several different styles over the years, but the guillotine gives the cleanest and most accurate results by far. I purchased this as a refurb/return and saved quite a bit of money. All I can think is that the prior owner didn't know to hold the paper firmly on the deck to the left of the blade. Perfect cuts - first time, every time. I own the small guillotine style cutter for quick, easy card making but I love that I can now cut scrapbook paper as well.

I’ve been searching for this type of cutter for a while now. They either cut perfectly but way too heavy, or they dont cut well at all. I really like this cutter. It’s light weight & does cut perfectly. I like the size, that it’s lightweight, I like the finger guard. The only thing is it doesn’t have a blade lock. But overall I finally found the right cutter.

If chop lots of 12x12 card stock and paper and tried the 12x6 Tonic Guillotine but it just didn't work for me. This one's without fault in my opinion. The rulers are easily read and the cutting blade is solid and gives a true straight cut every time...unless you try to cut too many pages at once. I've found 3 the maximum I can get guaranteed accurate cuts with.

It is a great cutter, a few of my friends have them and love them. After trying cheaper cutters and being disappointed, I finally bought my own and wished I had done it years ago.

we purchased this paper trimmer almost 6 years ago and it is still sharp and effective!we have never needed to sharpen the blade, as the metal to metal contact hones both leading edges... though a misnomer and i do not think one exists, it is like it is a self-sharpening trimmer!it is very well made with high quality components and it is very sturdy with a very robust cutting mechanism...the size is big enough for all our jobs, yet it is small and light enough for easy mobility from place to place...we have used it regularly and we remain to be very pleased... it has served us well for 6 years and it still looks and performs like day one! ... thus, we highly recommend this paper trimmer.a very robust and superb product!Thank you! :-)

I have a 8 year old Tonic slide cutter which I still use, so I figured I would like the Tonic Guillotine and it would have the features I was looking for. I was pleasantly surprised and really like it. It cuts any of my card stock with out any fraying on the edges. The plastic paper clamp holds the paper in place when needed and its designed well. The blade is very sharp and cuts with ease. I make a lot of cards and party favors and it always make a crisp cut on all types of paper. Even though its made of plastic, I have not had any problems, it sits solid and measures accurately. Wish I had bought a while back !!

Although it's identified as a kitchen product on Amazon, I use this trimmer for my crafts, specifically for cutting paper. I have other Tonic products including a small guillotine cutter so when I needed to buy a new large cutter I decided to try their 12 x 12 trimmer. I'm so glad I did because it's definitely a great performer. I mainly use it to cut 65 lb. and 80 lb. card stock and it does so with ease. I get crisp, clean cuts even when I've cut 3-80 lb. sheets at a time, something that didn't happen with the cutter I replaced. Other things I like about this cutter is that it's light weight but not flimsy and the end of the handle is removeable, making the cutter easier to store. I'm definitely satisfied with the Tonic 12 x 12 as I am with their other products. Good value for the price and not very expensive.

This is the best paper trimmer I have owned. I love how light in weight it is, but is still very sturdy. I read some reviews on this item and some people had trouble cutting. The only thing I can think of is they were not using the "clamp" to hold the paper in place or they got a bad one. You will have no problem seeing where the blade will cut after a couple times of using it. I even used the built-in grid on the surface to do some scoring with my bone folder. It cuts chipboard from cereal boxes perfectly. I don't know about anything heavier, as I have not tried yet. I can't believe the price for this paper trimmer! I have had much more expensive ones in the past and this Tonic can hold it's own!!! If you decide to purchase this item, you will not be disappointed...unless you don't use that clamp! LOL Extremely recommended! Oh, and it has a five year warrantee. No brainer! :)

The pros of this paper trimmer definitely outweigh the cons, but those cons are valid, so this falls just a bit short of a 5-star rating.Pros:1) Sharp blade that cuts accurately and repeatedly. A few reviewers have mentioned difficulty in seeing where the cut will be made, but I have had no problem in that regard. The device cuts straight along the metal edge every time.2) Lightweight. Not a huge plus for me, but if you need to move it around a lot, it will be easy to do so.3) Reasonably priced. There are a lot of paper cutters to choose from, but this one seems to be on the lower end of the cost scale, and without being a complete piece of junk. For ~$40, I doubt you can find one much better than this.Cons:1) While I have had no issues yet, I question the long-term durability of this product. Other than the steel cutting edges and some fasteners, it's made entirely of plastic. While this does make it lightweight (as mentioned above), it seems a little chincier than one with a wooden base. Depending on what you want, this may or may not matter. I recommend you consider the possible durability issues and make your own choice.2) Cuts single pages extremely well, but has trouble when dealing with multiple pages. I haven't tested this extensively, so I don't know what the cutoff is, but I tried slicing through a junk mail letter containing a few folded pages, and the blade barely made a dent. You might be able to use this to cut two or even three pages at a time (though I'm not entirely sure), but if you're looking to cut through several pages at once, you might need something a little heftier.Bottom line: If you don't need anything really sturdy/heavy duty, this is a great little trimmer for a great little price.
