This product works very well. We live in a neighborhood with lots of backyard fruit trees. I saw a rat a few years ago and decided to try Tomcat. I purchased it and 6 rat bait stations. The triangular rat stations are black and triangular. They work for mice as well, however ‘’Mouse stations’’ (also sold and triangular) are too small for rats, so get the rat stations for both species. It is easy to use with the rat bait stations. Don’t throw this stuff around and then feel badly when you see baby squirrels and rabbits dying. .Bromethalin does not have secondary toxicity. If a hawk or fox eats a poisoned rat, that animal will not be poisoned.Purchase 6 or so bait stations and set them at intervals along walls around your property. Initially they will be hit hard as a lot of rats will eat, so check the bait every 48 hours or so. After a time, they will last much longer. Over time, they will be sentinels. Keeping rats and mice away.Once again, these are poison. They are intended to kill rats and mice. If used without a bait box, they will kill dogs, cats, and most any animal in the area. I know that I sound like a nag, but reading so many reviews where people are throwing them around and then complaining when they kill animals causes me to scratch my head in wonder.

This seems to work well for us in our garage and sheds. Seems to hold up well to the weather and it's a good size bucket. The only complaint I have is it doesn't seem to attract them as much as maybe it had before. But maybe our rodents are getting more selective LOL. Good value for the money.

Edit : PSA for users. Please use the bait box. This one kills squirrels... It broke my heart to wake up one morning to see a dead squirrel. I buried the little one in my yard.I thought tossing these throughout would do the job. And it did, as you can read about in my original review below. But this also kills animals that you'd not want to harm.As soon as I found the squirrel, I went on amazon and bought 3 bait boxes. And now all my baits are placed inside the boxes, so that only rats and mice can enter. Please be mindful of this fact, if you care about wildlife at all. I feel absolutely horrible.Original review :Heard noises in the attic, critters running around scratching.VERY stress inducing, in the middle of the night.I just had no idea WHAT I was dealing with, because I never could see them.Mice? Rats? Squirrels? But I did find droppings, so I showed it to a rodent control guy, and he said "Those are rats".Anyways, I went up on the roof and sealed off every entry I could find, and then placed these Tomcat baits around the house OUTSIDE.The rodent control guy told me I ran the risk of TRAPPING a live rat inside the attic because I sealed off the holes without knowing they were out.I had no idea. But I just had a feeling they were out during the day because I coulnd't hear them at all.But he also told me that's because they are nocturnal, not necessarily that they actually LEFT the attic.Anyways, what's done was done and it was water under the bridge at that point, because I sealed off the entry points BEFORE I called the rodent control guy.Anyways, I went ahead and placed 4 of these blocks around the house, and next day, they were all gone !!!And the subsequent days, I didn't hear ANYTHING in the attic either.4 days later, while I was out doing yard work, I saw the dead corpses of 2 rats !!!!!!I was disgusted. I'm a city boy, and I NEVER saw a rat in real life !!!Took my shovel, and tossed them in the trash bin.Anyways, been about 4~5 days since I used this product, and haven't heard rats in the attic since. Not to mention the dead rats.I'm gonna get in the habit of placing these around the house on a regular basis so that they never get near the house. I'm amazed these work so well.

The active ingredient in this rodenticide is bromethalin.Unlike first and second generation rodenticides which function as anti-coagulants, bromethalin is a neurotoxin, making it far more effective and faster. First and second generation rodenticides usually require a rat to eat quite a bit of the poison, then you have to wait another 5 to 7 days for the creature to die. Usually more than a week passes before the creature died. This doesn't sound like much, but a week of damage in your garden or in your house can be rather significant. With Bromethalin, one single lethal dose is all that is required to kill the creature. The rat usually dies around 3 days later.Bromethalin, because it is so effective, is also very toxic to humans and pets, so it is far more likely to affect non-targeted creatures too.You will need to wear gloves as it can be absorbed through the skin. Be careful not to inhale small dust particles, although that is unlikely to happen as it comes in blocks. There is no antidote available for Bromethalin poisoning, should someone ingest it, so be very careful if you have kids or pets in the backyard.Unlikely first and second generation rodenticides that are generally less toxic to groundhogs and opossums, bromethalin will kill them. They are not meant to be used that way and it may even be illegal in some areas to kill these creatures using bromethalin, so try not to leave these lying around in your garden in the open. You might end up with more than just dead rats. The same goes for any pets in the area. It is advisable to only use Bromethalin in suitable devices that have a small hole large enough for mouse or rats.Bromethalin is an effective tool for controlling the population of mice and rats in your garden. I really like this product as it is effective, yet affordable too. I find that I use less of this compared to less effective rodenticides. I prefer the blocks compared to the small rice-like granules packets. The granular packets often contain too much bait every per packet. The blocks are much easier to spread and are a smaller portion too. They fit well in mice traps. Using one or two at a time is enough for a particular spot, so they last a long time. There is one thing to note: These are best suited for outdoor or garden use. The reason is that if you use these indoors, the rats are likely to end up dying behind a wall, in the air vent, or in some unknown corner of the house. The smell is not pleasant and can last for a few weeks. If you are looking to handle mice that are inside the house, I would recommend getting an electric mouse trap. That way, they do not end up rotting behind some furniture or wall. This rodenticides are best reserved for outdoor use.
