Toca vuelve a fallar al empeñarse en hacer todos sus instrumentos en pvc. Esto no siena a darbuka.

I bought this inexpensive Toca doumbek and then later on bought a $360 doumbek. Considering the price, the Toca has all the quality you'd want in a basic drum and sounds good. The "doum" has a lot of bass. The drum head gives it a sort of earthy sound. The adjustable/replaceable drum head is perfectly fine.

Great sound, great look, awesome price! Very much worth the money. Makes a great starter drum.I've bought several and this one is one of the better looking ones.

The one in the picture looks metal with a black rim. Should have read the description. This is why the drum seems like such a steal as I was thinking. It's the synthetic pvc type material with the rim being the same material with the same design, not black as in the picture. The Sound is o.k. however does not have the projection I thought it would have, and the coating makes it rather slick to hold. More of of kids toy if you ask me. So they are trying to take advantage of us when the drum is not what you see, shame on them for having a lousy product and trying to get rid of it as something better. Thats the name of the game for online shopping sometimes. However it is still so worth it. I'm looking into the Mother of Rhythm drums and Schalloch lines as I type here. Hopefully I'll have a nicer product this time. Hope you all find what your looking for. Never let the music die !!!

I read the reviews before buying this doumbek. All I can say is "Buy this drum". It looks beautiful, and sounds that way to. The reviews were right. At $65, I feel like I ripped them off. This drum will be good for beginers* as the tek and ka come off easy, loud and crisp. This drum is well worth the list price. As for the review that said the Aztec stinks, I had to put my nose IN the drum to detect a hint of insecticide. The head is made of animal skin, so it's required for shipping.*If you're a beginner, you may have to have someone tune it for you.

For the price and portability this item is great. Because of its composite nature it smells of really bad chemicals. The sound is ok but not what you find in a ceramic Doumbek. Going to keep this but looking for something more natural.

I bought this model used and its my very first doumbek. It feels great, looks great, and sounds great. The inner rim is a bit egg shaped but it doesn't seem matter much, other than the way it looks. There is also some splintering happening inside the drum, but again, it doesn't seem to matter much. The collar on my drum is currently lopsided, but this may be due to a poor head seating by the original owner. I considered re-seating the head but decided not to as to not deaden the sound and cause excess damage to the Toca goatskin head. This is a very musical sounding instrument with smooth low end (doums), deliciously warm high-end (pops, teks, kahs), and the slaps, once achieved, are also warm and very percussive. The drum is light weight and durable. If you are looking for an authentic doumbek, however, I cannot recommend this drum. I would like to see Toca make an attempt at designing an authentic doumbek which would entail an aluminum body, mother of pearl inlay, and a plastic head. Here in the USA it is difficult to find a quality affordable authentic doumbek. There are very few local options and ordering from doumbek heartland (the middle-east) is prohibitively expensive and often brings up quality control complaints.I recently had a chance to play a couple of "Alexandria" doumbeks and they are drastically different than my Toca. Their high-end is sharp and very crisp with teks that sound piercing, aggressive and dominant. I found it easier to achieve a good loud slap sound on the Alexandria-style imported doumbek.Still, this Toca doumbek is a wonderful, expressive, and highly musical instrument. It has its own special unique sound and is more durable and lighter weight than the middle-eastern industry standard. All things considered I highly recommend this drum.

We have purchased a few doumbeks in the past a none compare to this one. I read a review that rated this doumbek in the top 5 in this category. The other drums rated in the top 5 all cost over $200. So quickly, before they come to their senses buy this drum. Just leave one because my wife want to trade in her more expensive one for this. The tiki tak is awesome and it's beautiful

The photo on Amazon is wrong, as this drum model (SFMTDK-9AB) is not the Glued, Tucked Head version shown. There is a 1/4" space under the head on the mechanically tuned version, the head looks lifted. This is not a big deal for me at all, I prefer the mechanically tuned version, but those buying this drum for aesthetic purposes only could be disappointed. That said, this doumbek is very nice. It is also very light which is nice if you need to transport it often. The head, as would be expected from most Toca products, is very clean and responsive...there is some rich bass too that isn't too difficult to "find".I'm not going to say this is my favorite drum in my collection, but I am very pleased with it. I would buy it again and recommend it to others.
