The Timex Story

Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico.

The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.

During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches.

The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality.

One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.

Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

This thing could not be more difficult to set the alarms if it tried. The directions are not helpful. The snooze button is so small I can't find it. If I think I've found it I'm wrong any way because it's nestled between other buttons. The wire for the radio antenna is honestly just annoying as well. Super long and yet no matter where I put it, the radio is still full of static. This clock will be getting returned.

Works well with great options. The only issue is the sound quality from the radio. Speaker is a little tinny and weak

Finally, a good replacement for our 25+ year old clock radio. Two alarms, red numerals that don't annoy night sight, adjustable brightness so the clock isn't too bright. In spite of other reviews, it isn't difficult to set. The radio alarm does shut itself off, probably at about an hour (i left the room at 45 minutes after it came on.)

I like the design of the Am/FM Alarm Clock, got the white one, very stylish and compact, however I’m still trying to find a screw driver to open the back compartment to install the 2 AAA batteries that are not provided; Furthermore maneuvering the preset button is very complicated. It took me many attempts in trying to figure out how to set the alarms, waking up radio/buzzer. It’s too complicated. I decided to keep it because of the design. I also hope that it had the intellisense build in, meaning don’t have to set the time.

I bought a couple of these to put around the house. The red LED display is easy to read and having a radio is nice for background music. They aren't high fidelity or anything near Bose quality, but for $13 who cares? They have a double A cell battery backup so you won't have to reset the time if the power goes out.

Not the best clock radio I've ever had but far from the worst.Pros: Wide range of of light setting for the display. Volume ramps up to preset value when alarm goes off. Two independent alarm times. Small form factor.Cons: Independent antenna wire instead of built into the plug wire is ugly just hanging there. Sound quality isn't all that good, just acceptable. Not very easy to set up because the user instructions are all but non-existent.

Read the instructionsIt's not intuitive, but it's really easy to use.To turn the radio off, hold the button until it goes off. Otherwise you just keep toggling between AM, FM and AUX.The same button that is the snooze dims the display. The dimmed light for the time display is exactly bright enough to see, but not bright enough to light up the room.Exactly what I was looking for.

Protip about reading reviews..... read the most recent ones and not the ones with the most upvotes... or the dreaded reviews where someone got the product for free. This alarm only works if you have some supersonic hearing and wake up at the drop of a pin. I had the sound cranked up all the way, but I was never awakened by this alarm. My SonicBoom backup alarm woke me up..... even though it only uses Beep/Chime. I need a loud radio to wake up consistently..... and this Timex alarm does not have a loud radio nor a loud Chime. It makes no sense for people that complain that an alarm is too loud because they can simply turn the volume down. It's not science.I had an old Timex T715 that I bought somewhere around 10 years ago. It's one of those Smartset alarms which uses a CR2450 coin battery. It was loud but it kept slowly falling apart. I had to jiggle the dials to make sure the alarm was set. Then last week, on 12/08/23 all of the Alarms on that T715 just gave up, but it still shows time though. My question is why can't Timex make alarm clocks more like this, but with better dials and not designed to start falling apart after a couple of years.I would use my iphone, and I actually have an alarm set on it, but that alarm is amazingly quiet. I usually use that alarm on the weekend and maybe 34% of the time I am awaken by it. Gawd forbid there are some heavy sleepers out there that need a heavy duty alarm clock. Also, I've tried a few times to replace that old T715 alarm clock, but the other two alarms I bought were too quiet. I had no problems with all of the alarms I bought prior to 2012. I mean look, I understand that Alarmclocks are in less demand because people use their Smartphones, but the volume and Chimes used on most Smartphones are ineffective for heavy sleepers. Couldn't a company make a name brand alarm that has volume settings for the wake chime, and a few different passive and aggressive wake chimes, on top of it having an option for using the Radio for the alarm.
