An Improved Adapter for an Improved Xsporter Rack
Since 2005, when Toyota added a bed track railing system to the Tacoma pickup as a standard feature, the Thule XK product line of adapters has provided easy and inexpensive compatibility between the popular Tacoma, and the feature-rich Thule Xsporter Aluminum Truck Rack. Compatibility is based on the adapter's use of the grooves of the Tacoma's railing system as an anchor position for the rack's base elements. With the 2013 release of the Thule 500 Xsporter Pro Multi-Height Aluminum Truck Rack, Thule has released a new adapter -- designed for Tacoma models manufactured 2007-present -- the Thule XK3 Xsporter Pro Toyota Tacoma Adapter.
The Thule XK3 Xsporter Pro Toyota Tacoma Adapter utilizes a combination of the traditional connection via the Tacoma's railing system, a new clamping system over the top of the truck's side rails, and a bottom-aligned bolt. It does not require the drilling of any holes. With the insertion of the adapter into the Tacoma's rail system, the upper lip of the adapter rests in a groove forged into the top of the base section(s) of the rack. This facilitates a firm incidental connection to the rail of the truck, with the base support sections of the truck rack clamped in-between. Tightening the bolt presses the adapter's clamp foot feature flush against its "T-section" within the rail system creating a dependable, secure connection that holds the rack in place. Adapters can easily be loosened to reposition truck racks as needed, and they are compatible with the locking functionality of the Thule 500 Xsporter rack.

About Thule
Thule was founded in 1942 by the Thulin family, when Eric Thulin, a true lover of the outdoors, put the Thule name on a pike trap he designed and began to sell in Scandinavia. It wasn't long before he added other practical items to the company's portfolio. By the 1960s, the company began to concentrate on car-related products, including its first roof rack. The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions ever since. The Thule Group is a world leader in providing transport solutions for an active life.
