The panel looks too flimsy. It doesn’t look safe to mount on the ceiling. The lock doesn’t look safe at all. I didn’t approve the purchase.

Backstory: I recently purchased a 110-year-old house and am replumbing and rewiring the original systems.I'm installing a hot water recirculation system that continually runs a small volume of hot water through the lines and returns that water into the tank. Because of my choice of recirculation hardware, I can't use a manifold system to isolate each area where water is used. I want a way to turn the water supply off to specific fixtures or an entire location, i.e., a bathroom or laundry. With this compact access panel, I installed my shut-off valves behind the plaster and lath walls, where I've cut the opening to fit this door. It is super simple to install by using an osculating tool with a grout blade. Then, I used adhesive and four clamps to hold it while drying. I loved how easy this was vs. using a rock to build a custom door. The door has a very slight recessed panel appearance and the side trim is completely smooth and has no texture. There is a latching mechanism to secure the access door in the closed position. One can prime and paint the fronts of these panels to match the wall color. So far, there is no chipping, peeling, or color mismatch. It’s five stars for me!

The only positive thing to report is the removable door. That is actually nice to be able to just pull the little spring hinge and get it out of your way while you work on whatever you need to work on. In my case, I used this to give me access to the tub drain for easier repair access. I was tempted to put a bin under the tub drain and a drain hose routed much like a hot water heater having a drain pan to contain leaks. I believe being able to open this up now and then to inspect the plumbing for wear and tear will be fine for now. It's thin and cheap. There is no denying that! I got the left side screwed into a stud, but I needed to provide a wooden piece for the right side to screw the frame into. This did not offer any predrilled holes or anything useful to help install it. It isn’t completely flush with the ceiling at all points like one would hope and it is difficult to determine which way to turn the screw to open it. A pry tool comes in handy when you need to get it open. I can’t recommend this because I bought me a bigger 16x16 for behind the tub that was cheaper by four bucks, came with two keys and was much better quality. The inner flange around the unit will make marking the install site a bit difficult. You'll need to cut a little more than you are able to mark for this flange to pass through the drywall. Not for the faint of heart!

I used this access panel to hide the main water valve in my commercial kitchen. It was very easy to install and works very well for its purpose. Its made of metal so it won't be easily broken by things hitting it.

We sent this door back. It was extremely flimsy. We ordered a different brand from Amazon and it's perfect.

No surprises when installing this panel it went in as expected. I used some construction adhesive around the outside and it's been snug in the wall ever since. It took paint with no issues so far.
